  • Comment: The language is promotional, this is what the company would like to project rather than a neutral encyclopedia entry. Some of the wording looks to be AI assisted, which is not allowed. ChrysGalley (talk) 11:13, 5 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Comment: The cited sources are an unimpressive bunch. What's currently referenced first, a Jerusalem Post article ("Beyond a sculpture"), is promotional twaddle. (Example: D’Argenta sells through retail stores, jewelry stores, hotels, and nowadays – in keeping with the times – it has refreshed its website to make it more user friendly. When you purchase something at a store, there is an emotional aspect to it, but the world has changed and probably will keep changing. Because of this, customer service plays a key role at D’Argenta. They have customized their service to create a pleasant experience and help people find that memorable gift – with a special gifts concierge and an exclusive D’argenta Collectors Membership that offers privileges for sculpture lovers. What's currently the last, "D'Argenta: Introducing Luxurious Silver and Gold Home Decor Gifts to the USA", says "PRESS RELEASE" at the top. No surprise that it's a press release, as it contains such self-congratulation as Celebrated pieces like the Coca-Cola silver bottles and the 24K Gold McDonald's French Fries exemplify the brand's fusion of art and corporate prestige. Each custom piece, from trophies to branded sculptures, is a testament to the company's achievements and aspirations. Hoary (talk) 09:21, 31 March 2026 (UTC)

History

Founding (1976)

Ernesto and Sima Abraham, founders of D'Argenta, in Mexico City

D'Argenta was founded in 1976 in Mexico City by Ernesto Abraham and Sima Abraham.[1] Before founding D'Argenta, Ernesto Abraham, a chemical engineer, operated an industrial factory in Mexico City that applied chrome and nickel coatings to precision industrial components, including printing press drums and ballpoint pen tips.

The metalworking technology had been shared with Abraham by his colleague Samuel Fialkoff, inventor of German patent DE1803599A1 (1968), which described a galvanic deposition process for manufacturing rocket motor nozzles with internal copper cooling channels. Fialkoff served as program manager for Camin Laboratories, Inc. of Brooklyn, New York, on NASA contracts NAS9-6177 and NAS7-691, developing electroforming techniques for rocket engine injectors, and delivered the Phase 2 report in April 1969.[2][3]

Sima Abraham asked whether the same manufacturing process used in the factory could be applied to artistic shapes. The couple created their first artistic piece — a figure of Pakal, the ancient Maya king — and coated it in nickel. They subsequently established D'Argenta.

International exhibitions and awards (1981–1999)

In May 1981, D'Argenta received a gold medal at the International Spring Fair in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, held 5–14 May 1981, for a group of silver figures exhibited at the fair.[4]

A D'Argenta Aztec calendar sculpture was presented to Pope John Paul II during a private audience at Castel Gandolfo.[5] The presentation was organised by Rafaello Stara Fusi alongside the Mexican Secretary of the Interior.

In July and August 1992, Crown Prince Naruhito of Japan — later Emperor Naruhito — visited Mexico as part of an official diplomatic tour that also included Spain and Venezuela, "to foster friendly relations at the invitation of Mexico".[6] A D'Argenta sculpture was presented during the Crown Prince's visit to Mexico.[citation needed]

That same year, D'Argenta's work was featured on the cover of Made for Export magazine in August 1992.[7] A February 1994 feature in Made in Europe magazine described the company as producing over 150 models and stated the company had led the precious metal artwork export market for fifteen years.[8]

In 1994, D'Argenta produced gold and silver figures of over 21 Disney characters, sold through Liverpool and Tane stores in Mexico at prices ranging from $140 to $400.[9] That year, a D'Argenta silver helmet commissioned for the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League appeared on the cover of the Dallas Cowboys Official Catalog.[10]

In June 1995, D'Argenta exhibited at the Internationale Frankfurter Messe ASIA at the Tokyo International Trade Fair Grounds in Harumi, organised by Messe Frankfurt.[11]

By 1996, D'Argenta's leopard sculptures were sold through Little Switzerland stores in the Caribbean, as reported in American Eagle Latitudes magazine.[12]

In July 1997, D'Argenta received the HIGH DESIGN award at AmericasMart Atlanta.[13]

Retail and catalog partnerships (1990s–2010s)

D'Argenta established distribution partnerships with American retail cataloguers. The Franklin Mint featured a D'Argenta silver eagle sculpture titled "Silver Majesty" — created by sculptor Manuel Alvarado — in its Holiday Collection 2010 catalogue, offered at $2,995 as a limited edition of 500 pieces.[14] Wall Street Creations featured a D'Argenta silver bull sculpture by Claudio Rodriguez priced at $950 in a limited edition of 500.[15]

2000s–2010s

In October 2001, D'Argenta silver leopard sculptures were photographed in Quién magazine in a feature on Villa Arabesque, the Acapulco mansion of Baron Enrico di Portanova, where the leopards were displayed as decorative centrepieces.[16]

In February 2011, a D'Argenta tiger sculpture appeared in a Vogue magazine feature on Sandra Lee, then First Lady of New York during the governorship of Andrew Cuomo.[17] In December 2012, The New York Observer reported that a D'Argenta tiger sculpture was among the decorations at the New York State Executive Mansion Christmas tree.[18]

A limited-edition leopard cub sculpture by artist Enrique Jolly for D'Argenta (edition 326/500) sold at Bradford's Auction Gallery in Sun City, Arizona in March 2023 for $2,400.[19]

2018–present

In 2018, D'Argenta was listed in the Design Week Mexico directory of Mexican design companies.[20] In 2020, D'Argenta participated in the design section of the Zona MACO art fair in Mexico City.[21]

Sculpture collections

D'Argenta produces limited-edition sculptures in three principal metal finishes: copper, silver, and 24-karat gold. Sculptures are built on a copper substrate and hand-finished at the company's workshop in Mexico City. Works in the permanent collection include the León en Oro (Lion in Gold), a life-size lion sculpture with a 24-karat gold finish; the Jaguar en Plata (Jaguar in Silver); and the Pakal, a figure of Pakal, the ancient Maya king of Palenque.

Pre-Hispanic and cultural heritage series

Part of D'Argenta's collection reproduces Pre-Hispanic iconography, including Mayan, Aztec, and Olmec forms. The company holds an authorisation from the National Museum of Anthropology of Mexico to reproduce selected objects from the national collection.

Corporate commissions

D'Argenta produces custom metal pieces for corporate clients as gifts and commemorative objects. Corporate clients have included Coca-Cola, McDonald's, Pepsi, Tequila Patrón, Bacardi, Kellogg's, Crayola, Hershey's, Volvo, Wells Fargo, Tequila Corralejo, and Corona.[citation needed] D'Argenta also produced a silver helmet for the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League in 1994.[10]

Licensed art reproductions

D'Argenta holds licences to produce limited-edition reproductions of works by Salvador Dalí (authorised by the Gala–Salvador Dalí Foundation),[23] Frida Kahlo, architect Pedro Ramírez Vázquez, and Disney.[9]

Manufacturing process

D'Argenta uses a multi-stage metal finishing process in which sculptures receive successive layers of copper, silver, or gold. A selective patina is applied to recessed areas, and the surface is sealed with lacquer. The company does not publish technical specifications of its process. Auction house documentation for sold pieces has described the technique as "sterling silverplate" — a silver coating applied to a non-silver base.[19]

The process is related to electroforming technology developed in the 1960s by Samuel Fialkoff and his colleagues at Camin Laboratories, Inc., under NASA contracts for the manufacture of rocket engine injectors.[2][3]
