Flannery is a Hoenn region Gym Leader of Lavaridge Town in the world of Pokémon. She specializes in Fire-type Pokémon.

In the Anime

In the anime, Ash and company see a Slugma running from a girl with blazing red-hairafter having one of the water Pokémon put the fire out. They meet up with the new Lavaridge Town Gym Leader, Flannery, who had been training with her Slugma. They are secretly helped by fake workers, Jessie and James of Team Rocket, an old women and a judge - Flannery's grandfather. Flannery's grandfather saves the day when Team Rocket attempts to steal Flannery's Torkoal. In the resulting Team Rocket battle, one of her Slugma evolves into a Magcargo.

The follow day, Ash has his Lavaridge Gym battle, Ash's line up is Corphish, Pikachu and Treecko. Despite Corphish being hit by a Yawn from Flannery's Slugma, Ash managed to defeat Torkal and win the Heat Badge.

In Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire and Emerald, Flannery is admired for her beauty and strength. She's only been Gym Leader for a short time, and she tries to act intimidating but can't quite get it right. After she loses to the main character, she realized that she was trying to be hard to be someone that she wasn't and had to run things her own way.

Her grandfather was once a member of the Hoenn Elite Four. She has apparently battled with Norman sometime in the past.

In addition to the Heatbadge, Flannery gives out TM 50, Overheat. Overheat is a powerful Fire-type attack that sharply lowers the offending Pokémon's Special Attack stat.

Flannery

In the Pokémon Special, Flannery tried to protect Mt. Chimney from having its flames doused by Team Aqua. However, even with the help of Sapphire, she was unable to prevent the water-worshiping team from causing the volcano to become dormant.

During the battle, she was also assisted by Tabitha of Team Magma. The two seemed to be attracted to each other. Later, when all the Hoenn Gym Leaders chose sides, Flannery alligned herself with Team Magma. The destruction later caused by Kyogre and Groudon changed her mind.

Flannery is also apparently close friends with Winona.
