Career

2010-2016: YouTube breakout success

Jschlatt begun uploading to YouTube in 2010, creating Nerf videos inspired by Call of Duty gameplay and Freddie Wong.[1] After pivoting to creating gameplay videos with an Xbox and a PVR, in July 2013 Schlatt created the jschlatt channel with the intention of creating "MLG montage parodies".[2]

From early on, Schlatt used an avatar of Rammie, a character from Castle Crashers, as his YouTube avatar.[3] In December 2017, Schlatt switched to a new profile picture inspired by Rammie, created by Dana Clement.[4] Since then, Schlatt has released a number of physical products under the Rammie brand, including a range of Youtooz products.[5][6] The Rammie trademark was registered in August 2022.[7]

Using his editing skills and knowledge of comedic timing gained from his previous channels, Jschlatt successly grew the channel to over 400 subscribers in three years.[3]

2016-2019: Sleep Deprived, Essays & CallMeCarson

In late 2016, Schlatt begun experimenting with creating video essays, releasing What's Out There?, focusing on theories about the Observable universe.[8] His most successful essay videos between 2017 and 2018 focus on OpenTTD, Minecraft and Radiohead's 1997 album, OK Computer.

Jschlatt uploaded the first episode of Sleep Deprived, a comedy podcast, on July 22nd 2017, his first podcast with long-time friend and content creator Mikasacus.[9] Fellow commentary YouTubers Aztrosist and Apandah joined early on, and the line-up has remained the same since.[10]

On February 7th, 2018, Jschlatt uploaded elon r u ok, a short video focused on Elon Musk.[11] It went viral and remains his most popular video.

In June 2018, Schlatt began streaming on Twitch, primarly playing Minecraft, Planet Coaster and Rollercoaster Tycoon 2.[12] By March 2019 he had over 3,000 followers while streaming Minecraft.[13]

Schlatt was one of the orginal creators involved with Carson "CallMeCarson" King and Cooper "Cscoop" Schulz's SMPLive survival multiplayer server, which operated from March 2019 until January 2020. Jschlatt's channels experienced massive growth upon joining SMPLive; his newly created channel jschlattLIVE had gained over 89,000 subscribers by June.[14] Schlatt joined other ventures with King and Schulz, appearing as a regular guest on their podcast Goopcast (later Lunch Club) from June 2019.[15]

In July 2019, Schlatt created the TekkitLive server, a spin-off of SMPLive, which used the "Tekkit" modpack. The focus of TekkitLive, also known as Tekkit Tuesdays, revolved around various "companies" (comprising of streamers including Technoblade, Ted Nivison, ConnorEatsPants, and Carson) competing in an arms race. Schlatt named his company Schlatt & Co., which later became the name for his second YouTube channel.

Ultimately he dissasociated from Carson, who in 2021 was accused of grooming underage fans.[16][17]
