Draft:Once Upon a Time, There Was a King...

1985 Czech fairy tale film From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Once Upon a Time There Was a King... is a Czech fairy tale film from 1954 directed by Bořivoj Zeman . The film is in sound and color. It is a situation comedy based on the plot of the classic fairy tale Salt More Than Gold. The story is told in a rather unconventional way, as it is enriched with additional humorous situations. Jan Werich played the main role of the king, supported by Vlasta Burian in the role of advisor (The Second "I" of the King – Atakdále), and it was their first meeting in front of a movie camera. For Vlasta Burian, it was his thirty-seventh film, his first and last color film. The young high school student Milena Dvorská played her first major film role here as Princess Maria, and as a complete non-actress at the time, her performance led her to a future acting career. The lyrics were written by Jaroslav Seifert. The film was shot in studios, near Třeboň and Jindřichův Hradec.
