Rayman 4 [referred to as simply Rayman in the prototype itself] is a prototype of the aforementioned cancelled game, developed by Ubisoft Montpellier. This was originally intended to be the fourth main installment in the Rayman franchise and the follow-up to Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc. This prototype was developed in early 2006, and was scrapped due to unknown reasons. Most of the existing assets made for the prototype [such as Rayman's model] would end up being repurposed for the minigame collection Rayman Raving Rabbids.
Gameplay (Ubisoft Montpellier prototype)
Main Gameplay
The main gameplay heavily focuses on combat and platforming through semi-open worlds.
Controls
Rayman's controls have been changed, while still including elements from his moveset in Rayman 3. His ranged punches and close-range kicks have been replaced with a move similar to that of martial arts. Rayman's controls also include a Yoshi-style flutter jump, a ground smash move, a hand grapple move that can be used to grapple onto handles and pull levers, and a skydiving mechanic that has it's own flutter jump that can only be used once while skydiving.
Mounts
Creatures that you can jump onto and take control of exist within the prototype, known as Mounts. From what is seen in the prototype, a spider, bird, shark, anglerfish, triceratops and Rabbid Mecha Bipod can be mounted.
