RunForPragathi Campaign
RunForPragathi is a community environmental initiative launched on March 15, 2026, by a group of Class X students in Pragathi Nagar. The project uses a collective fitness challenge to advocate for the restoration of Pragathi Nagar Lake, which has seen significant ecological decline due to urban drainage/sewage disposal and waste tipping. It launches on 14th April, 2026 for a communal milestone of 10,000km.
Project Scope
The central goal of the campaign is for the local community to record a cumulative distance of 10,000 kilometers by December 31, 2026.
The students designed the project to be a data-driven awareness campaign rather than a standard protest. By tracking the distance covered by residents during their daily exercise, the group aims to demonstrate the high number of people who still value and utilise the lake area despite its deteriorating condition.
Daily Activity
The campaign is most active every morning, as this is when the majority of residents use the lake-side paths.
- Distance Logging: Participants record their morning walks or runs via messaging the RunForPragathi Instagram account. This data is compiled regularly to show progress toward the 10,000km year-end target.
- Environmental Documentation: Students use the morning hours to document specific issues, such as the location of new sewage inflows or areas with heavy plastic accumulation. This information is intended for a formal report to be submitted to civic authorities.
- Community Participation: The initiative is open to all residents, with local walking clubs and student groups contributing the bulk of the daily mileage. Runners are encouraged to pick up any litter, even 1-2 items per run per person to dispose of properly.
Objectives
The RunForPragathi campaign has outlined three primary technical goals for the 2026 calendar year:
- Quantifiable Engagement: Reach the 10,000 km mark to prove widespread community interest in the lake’s upkeep.
- Pollution Mapping: Create a comprehensive map of the lake’s primary pollution sources based on daily observations made by runners, which will aid in formally involving governmental agencies in cleaning up the lake.
