Career
Poonia represented the Punjab FC youth academy before joining NorthEast United FC's youth setup in early 2025. He was part of the India U17 squad coached by Bibiano Fernandes that won the SAFF U17 Championship 2025.
In November 2025, during the AFC U17 Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers held in Ahmedabad, Poonia scored a crucial header in the 44th minute against Palestine to give India the lead. He has been recognized as one of the key defensive talents to watch in Indian football.
