In September 2025, following the release of Weapons (2025), director Zach Cregger revealed that he would be directing and writing a prequel spin-off centering on Aunt Gladys.[2] In April 2026, after Amy Madigan won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Gladys in the 98th Academy Awards, Zach Shields had been hired to co-write the script.[3] Fourteen days later, both the film's release date was announced and Madigan was confirmed to be reprising the titular role.[1]
