Attendees will participate in an engaging session to collaborate with experienced Wikimedia NYC editors and contribute their knowledge and stories. We will start off the day with a tour of Kelly Street Garden and storytelling from longtime growers and residents of Kelly Street, a neighborhood with ties to urban growing since the 1970s. Following the tour, participants will learn the basics of wiki editing and begin documenting the community garden movement alongside the intertwined histories of displacement and resistance.
This work is part of a collective project of remembrance—documenting and honoring the community gardens and farms that have been displaced yet remain alive in memory, resistance and the land. Bring your photographs, articles, and resources related to community gardens and farms.
We’ll close the day with a peer share and a hands-on activity: making tea bags filled with herbs from Kelly Street Garden’s apothecary for participants to take home! Refreshments will be provided by La Morada. Please mark your calendars, pack your enthusiasm, and join us for a day dedicated to celebrating and preserving the essence of community gardens and farms.
You can come for the full day or stop by when you can—all support is welcome!
All attendees are subject to Wikimedia NYC's code of conduct.
