The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) operates a number of bus routes in the Atlanta metro region. The main system operates in Fulton, DeKalb, and Clayton counties, although some routes travel into other suburban counties. In 2025, the system had a ridership of 34,316,700, or about 97,000 per weekday as of the fourth quarter of 2025.[1]

MARTA developed a "wish list" in 2017 to expand service, including buses.[2] However, there was also a plan in 2017 to reduce some bus services, which outraged residents whose buses would have been eliminated.[3] By 2023, their plans for expanded light rail were modified to include bus rapid transit.[4]
In 2025, MARTA announced a complete revamp of their bus system, called "NextGen Bus Network", reducing the number of bus routes from about 113 to 81.[5]

NextGen Bus Network
In 2025, MARTA announced plans to revamp its network of bus routes.[5]
On April 18, 2026, MARTA's NextGen Bus Network will launch, completely revamping the system. The current 113 bus routes will be consolidated into 81 along with 12 dial-a-ride zones, which MARTA refers to as MARTA Reach.[6][7]
