2006–2015: Early years, Mirror Maru and Wedding Bells

As a teenager, Høiberg began producing music and teaching himself how to DJ. He represented Norway in the DMC World DJ Championships from 2006 to 2009 under the pseudonym DJ Final.

Høiberg's debut extended play (EP) as Cashmere Cat, Mirror Maru,^[1][2] was released on 22 October 2012 on French label Pelican Fly. The diversity and influence of multiple genres gained support from notables such as Hudson Mohawke, Rustie and Gilles Peterson.^[4][5][6]

He continued to gain recognition with a number of remixes, including his edits of 2 Chainz' "No Lie," Lana Del Rey's "National Anthem," Miguel's "Do You..." and Jeremih's "773 Love." In January 2013, producer, songwriter and musician Benny Blanco invited Cashmere to New York to collaborate on production work and helped book his first. In 2013 Cashmere Cat also played his first concerts in the United States. That summer, he moved from Norway to Manhattan.^[7]

The title track of Mirror Maru was also featured on the soundtrack of the 2013 video game Grand Theft Auto V.^[8]

On 11 February 2014, Høiberg's second EP Wedding Bells was released on UK label LuckyMe.^[9] In August same year, he produced and featured on "Be My Baby" from Ariana Grande's second studio album My Everything. He was also the opening act during Grande's North American The Honeymoon Tour. On September 26, 2014, Jeremih released promotional single "Nobody But U" produced by Cashmere Cat, but it did not make his oft-delayed and hotly-anticipated Late Nights: The Album.^[10]

Among his early co-production credits in the United States, often alongside Blanco, were Ludacris' single "Party Girls" (featuring Wiz Khalifa, Jeremih and Cashmere Cat)^[11] and Ryn Weaver's debut single "OctaHate", both released in 2014.^[12]

2016–present: 9, Princess Catgirl, other contributions

On 28 February 2016, Cashmere confirmed that his debut studio album, 9, was on the way.^[13] Ahead of the album, Cashmere Cat release singles "Wild Love" featuring The Weeknd and Francis and the Lights; "Trust Nobody" featuring Selena Gomez and Tory Lanez; "Love Incredible" featuring Camila Cabello and co-produced by Sophie; and "9 (After Coachella)" featuring MØ and Sophie.^[14] The album was released on 28 April 2017 with further contributions from Kehlani, Kacy Hill, Ariana Grande, Ty Dolla Sign and Jhené Aiko.

Cashmere co-produced "Wolves", alongside Sinjin Hawke, for Kanye West's 2016 studio album The Life of Pablo.

Also in 2016, Cashmere Cat co-wrote and co-produced two tracks on the Weeknd's third studio album Starboy: "All I Know" (featuring Future) and "Die for You".^[15] Following a viral resurgence and a remix with Ariana Grande, "Die for You" reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in March 2023, more than six years after its original release.^[16]

In January 2018, Cashmere Cat released the standalone single "Miss You", a collaboration with Major Lazer and Tory Lanez that was co-written by Ed Sheeran, Benny Blanco and Palmistry.^[17]

In 2018, Cashmere Cat co-produced album tracks for Kanye West (Kids See Ghosts) and Nas.^[18] He continued to produce for a number of artists, with notable credits on Benny Blanco's debut single, the global hit "Eastside" with Halsey and Khalid^[19] and Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello's global hit "Señorita".

Cashmere Cat's second album, Princess Catgirl, was released on September 20, 2019, featuring singles "Emotions" and "For Your Eyes Only."^[20]

The album's rollout introduced an animated character, also named Princess Catgirl, which Høiberg presented as the public face of his music; the character was portrayed by actress Margaret Qualley in the music video for "Emotions".^[21][22] In November 2019, he co-wrote and co-produced the single "Sad Day" and contributed production to "Mary Magdalene" on FKA Twigs' second studio album Magdalene.^[23][24]

Cashmere Cat co-wrote and co-produced The Kid Laroi's 2021 song "Stay" (with Justin Bieber), which went on to reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in August 2021.^[25][26]

In August 2022, Cashmere Cat co-wrote and co-produced "Bad Decisions", a single by Benny Blanco with South Korean group BTS and American rapper Snoop Dogg.^[27][28] In 2023, he co-wrote and co-produced Kali Uchis' single "Moonlight", from her album Red Moon in Venus,^[29] as well as Selena Gomez's standalone single "Single Soon", which he produced with Benny Blanco.^[30]

In July 2024, he co-wrote and co-produced "Touch", the second single by global girl group Katseye,^[31] and later that year co-produced "Degenere", a collaboration between Myke Towers and Benny Blanco built on a sample of Suzanne Vega's "Tom's Diner".^[32]

In 2024, Cashmere Cat served as a songwriter, producer and executive producer for Lil Uzi Vert's album Eternal Atake 2. He produced eleven of the album's sixteen tracks,^[33][34] and the record debuted at number three on the Billboard 200.^[35]

In 2025, Cashmere Cat served as a songwriter and producer on some songs from benny blanco and Selena Gomez's album I Said I Love You First. He also wrote and produced "Nachica", "906090", and "Perro Fiel" from Neton Vega's album DELIRIUM.

His contributions to I Said I Love You First included the lead single "Call Me When You Break Up" (with Gracie Abrams) and "Bluest Flame", the latter co-written with Charli XCX;^[36] "Bluest Flame" received a nomination for Best Dance Pop Recording at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards in February 2026.^[37]
