His first piece of silverware with Cruz Azul came in the Copa MX final against Atlante on April 10, 2013, where Cruz Azul defeated Atlante 4-2 on penalties.[2] On February 21, 2014, Chávez scored a famous 50-yard volley against Queretaro in a 3-1 win away.[3] His second and last piece of silverware with Cruz Azul came on April 15, 2014, in the Concacaf Champions League final against Toluca at the Nemesio Diez where Cruz Azul won on away goals as they drew 1-1 in the second leg when it was 0-0 in the first leg. Chávez spent the entire Clausura 2016 Liga MX season not playing a single minute for Cruz Azul as before the season kicked off, Chávez refused to go to Alebrijes de Oaxaca as he was going to be placed there and his manager at the time, Tomas Boy did not have him in his plans anymore for the upcoming season.[4]
