The USSR national handball team was the national handball team of the Soviet Union. It was considered one of the strongest national teams in the world,[1] and has won both the World Men's Handball Championship and Olympic gold.
After the Dissolution of the Soviet Union the Russia men's national handball team became the successor to the Soviet Union team.[2][3] The last major international tournament for the Soviet Union was the 1992 Olympics, where they competed as the Unified team.[4] The last game under the Soviet flag was on 21 December 1991 against Germany.[1]
