Sugar Creek Township is one of fourteen townships in Shelby County, Indiana. As of the 2010 census, its population was 1,086 and it contained 412 housing units.[4]

Sugar Creek Township was organized in 1840.[5]

The community took its name from Sugar Creek,[6] which flows southward in the area just west of the community.[7]

According to the 2010 census, the township has a total area of 24.01 square miles (62.2 km2), of which 23.9 square miles (62 km2) (or 99.54%) is land and 0.11 square miles (0.28 km2) (or 0.46%) is water.[4]

The climate in this area is characterized by hot, humid summers and generally mild to cool winters. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Sugar Creek has a humid subtropical climate, abbreviated "Cfa" on climate maps.[8]
