@Sargdub, Nagle, Brianhe, and Coretheapple: This article is having the usual problems that accompany most articles on binary options brokers. Promotional tone, unreliable sources, doesn't get updated to reflect regulatory actions. About the only positive info I can find is that the company claims to be registered in Mauritius. Since it was declared insolvent in the UK in early 2015, and lost its membership in the National Futures Association in the US a few months later (as well as it's right to trade in the US) I can't find any reliable sources. @Smallbones: I am a little concerned about the "is or was" phraseology in the lead sentence. Alpari says its UK insolvency does not affect other companies. Short answer is that I don't think we can trust any Alpari website, we need a reliable independent source that says it still exists in any meaningful form.

All this needs to be double checked, but I can't find anything after mid-2015 that says they exist in a form other than a nominee's mailbox and a website. Since they very publicly were kicked out of the US, and were declared insolvent in the UK (final final closing and payout expected in July 2017). What I can find are licenses in Mauritius and Belize (both pre-2015) made by nominees, so these businesses exist pretty much in the form of a mailbox. To the extent that I can find out, these licenses only apply to people living in Mauritius and Belize, which means less than nothing in terms of international financial markets. Licenses from any two other countries would be at least as meaningful. There is a statement on an Alpari website that they are regulated in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, but that is misleading. They are registered as a corporation (only) for 2017 in St.V&G, but apparently not licensed to do business there. There's a "self-regulatory" body, "The Financial Commission" noted on their website, but this again means less than nothing - there's no evidence anywhere that this organization exists anywhere or is recognized by anybody. There's note of a sponsorship agreement with the West Ham football club - which has long gone down the drain (the agreement that is). There's a statement saying BDO is the auditor - but there are no links to any financial statements. There is a 2010? license from the Central Bank of Russia, but according to a source once included here, it couldn't be used because they were not part of a recognized self-regulatory organization. So in short there's almost nothing indicating that they are still alive, and when you scratch the surface of the few indications there are, it just looks like dust. OK, I think you're basically right. However the "was or is" phraseology is a bit awkward and I think we should rethink it. I would go for "is" as they do have a website, they do have licenses out on some island somewhere, even if they are not doing business. Alpari was granted a license by the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus on 23 June, 2016 (http://www.nbrb.by/finsector/forex/register), and was licensed (as a Forex broker) by the Russian Central Bank on November 28, 2016 (http://www.cbr.ru/publ/vestnik/vestnik/ves161207106.pdf). Alpari Group is a binary options, foreign exchange, precious metals, and CFD broker that has a record of insolvency and regulatory difficulties. The company's UK entity entered insolvency on January 19, 2015, following heavy losses trading the Swiss franc against the euro.^[1] In April 2015, the company's US NFA membership was revoked, preventing them from offering their services in the United States.^[2]

The company is licensed to trade in

• Belarus^[3]
• Belize,^[4] and
• Mauritius^[5]

The company is also licensed to trade in Russia^[6] though, as of November 28, 2016, it was still unable to operate in Russia because it was not a member of an approved self-regulatory organization.^[7] The company's charter is registered in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Alpari Research & Analysis Limited, which gives a London address, provides only research and analysis and is not licensed to trade.^[8]

Andrey Valerievich Dashin claims ownership of both Alpari and another foreign exchange broker FXTM also known as ForexTime.^[9]

  • I feel pretty much the same way. If info on the company is so hard to find, then perhaps the best solution is just to delete all these companies. OTOH, they don't always stay deleted and perhaps if we put out so much bad info on them for so long, correcting the info now is the best idea. I'd guess there are another 15-20 companies like this.
