List of Sportspeople with type 1 diabetes
Hi I have a Wikipedia page that was written by someone, not me, but I don’t know who. I am an ex GB field hockey player, hence my wikipedia page. I wanted to add my name to the list of sports people with type 1 diabetes, as I think the longer and more diverse the list the more helpful it would be, especially for young people newly diagnosed with the condition. However I have been blocked for reasons I don’t understand. I am a real person, I really was a GB field hockey player and I am well known in the sport, amongst my peers at least, for having had type 1 diabetes since the age of 15 years. I am especially keen to do this because when I was diagnosed, teachers etc suggested I should stop playing sport. Obviously I didn’t. Although attitudes have changed since 1972 I still feel it is helpful to show that through history there have been many elite performers with type 1 diabetes in many different sports.
Is there anything anyone can do about this?
Many thanks

- What I think should be changed:I would like to add the fact that I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1972
- Why it should be changed:It is a fact which I can prove from my medical records and I feel the inclusion of this information might help other people, particularly young newly diagnosed people
- References supporting the possible change (format using the "cite" button):Medical records GP surgery and Kings College Hospital. These are of course confidential but I can produce them if requested but I would prefer via a secure means. You could also check with every player who played hockey for Wales, GB or Southgate HC in the late 70s and 80s. Every elite hockey player from that era was aware of this fact.

- Hello! Your desire to help other people with type 1 diabetes is commendable. Wikipedia's guidelines require the use of published sources to ensure all information is verifiable. This precludes the use of private medical records and hearsay as references. Do you happen to have a published source that mentions your diagnosis? Something like a newspaper article or player profile would be perfect. Discourses on Livvy (talk · contribs) 22:49, 27 March 2026 (UTC)
