Rewritten
The previous version of this article was copied directly from Cape Beal Lightstation with some commentary added. I did a google search and redid the whole thing based on what I could find. I'm not convinced that this needs it's own page, and wouldn't be opposed if the information was moved to the article on Bamfield then deleted. I'll mark it as a stub and if no one else contributes to it then I'll go ahead with the deletion/merge process. Starfoxy 23:32, 26 July 2005 (UTC)

Question about writing an article about a rescue
- 29Feb1976. The F/V Bruce 1 foundered on Cape Beale and the Canadian Coast Guard, CCG104, rescued 2 men but couldn't get to a third man on a rock under the Cape Beale cliff. A US Coast Guard helicopter from Port Angeles hoisted the man off the rock and during the attempt to find the fourth and final man from the Bruce 1, the helicopter engine quit and were rescued by the CCG104. The light house keeper, Alexander Thompson, was instrumental in guiding the CCG104 through the rocks to the helo. His help was necessary because it was 2:30 in the morning in pitch black, blowing snow. The crew of CCG104 was honored by the Canadian Government and the US Coast Guard for their heroism. On 28Feb2026, a 50th year reunion was held in Bamfield where a plaque commemorating the rescue was unveiled. There is much more to the rescue story which has been written up in books, newspaper articles, the Naval Aviation Foundation magazine and the Coast Guard Aviation Association.
