Fascism is a far-right ideology. The lead of the article says that fascism "is a far-right, authoritarian, and ultranationalist political ideology and movement". This statement is the result of a very long process of discussion and debate, and has strong consensus acceptance within the Wikipedia community, based on the consensus of political scientists, historians, and other reliable sources that fascism is a (far) "right-wing" ideology and not a "left-wing" one. This has been discussed numerous times. Please see this FAQ and read the talk page archives.Requests for "far-right" to be changed to "far-left", "left-wing", or any other political position are generally not helpful and are discouraged. Consensus can change, but this is a larger issue that should be taken to the WP:Village Pump or other venue rather than debated here. |

The political left-right spectrum is defined where left is government control over the means of production and right is private control over the means of production. How do we square the notion of "far right" somehow meaning "totalitarianism"? Under a totalitarian government, they would dictate and thus control all of the means of production. That would make any form of totalitarian government left not right. It cannot be true that on the left-right spectrum that fascism is far-right given the totalitarian component. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.104.112.170 (talk) 20:15, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
- No, that is not how the political left-right spectrum is defined. Notice that your definition conflicts with the customary placing of many ideologies on the spectrum, not just fascism. For example, anarchism is considered far-left. Obviously, "left" cannot mean "government control" if anarchism is far-left. Just like "right" cannot mean "private control", because several big-government ideologies are on the right (not just fascism, but also, for example, absolute monarchism).
- The actual definition of left and right is that "left" means being pro-equality (far-left means absolute equality) and "right" means being pro-hierarchy (far-right means supremacy of some people over others). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1009:B001:A6A9:E8D0:A86F:F39D:88D6 (talk) 21:12, 9 July 2024 (UTC)
- There are both totalitarian left governments, like Soviet Russia, and totalitarian right governments, like Nazi Germany. The left-right divide was originally between democratic reform and absolute monarchy, but these days it's normally a question of economics. Communism is far left, socialism is left, social democracy is centre-left, regulated capitalism is centre-right, neoliberalism/laissez faire capitalism is right, with systems like (techno)feudalism and corporatism being far-right. There is also a cultural axis between liberal cosmopolitanism and conservative nationalism, but that varies a lot between countries. Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany were both corporatist and nationalist, so they were both economically and culturally right-wing. 2601:486:100:9780:F1D8:66FC:84EB:77A6 (talk) 04:26, 5 July 2025 (UTC)
- the beginning of the thread is correct, left is more Government control, less private ownership, right is Private ownership, less Government, more freedoms.
- You can argue like gun control ok left wants to take away guns believing it would make everyone safer, the right believes in the right to defend yourself.
- And no matter those intent on doing evil will still have guns ~2025-32822-87 (talk) 18:42, 11 November 2025 (UTC)
- Neither you nor the top commenter are correct. Left-wing politics and Right-wing politics are both well-understood and studied ideologies, and you all have an encyclopedia at hand which you can check before spouting nonsense like this. ᛗᛁᛟᛚᚾᛁᚱPants Tell me all about it. 19:08, 11 November 2025 (UTC)
