Censorship section
I want to get consensus for the fact that the statement in the Controversy section about Hotstar removing an episode of Last Week Tonight from the air is sourced with reliable sources and should be included in the article. This is correct, is it not? –Gladamas (talk · contribs) 21:47, 26 February 2020 (UTC)
Pass
- ...But if I may: Technically, it's not "removal", for that will imply that they firstly added the episode and then pulled it out for some 'inexplicable' factors, that's not what occurred here. They simply never added the episode.[ With the notice "NEW EPISODE EVERY TUESDAY AT 6:00 AM. [sic]" intact and all.] Nothing more, nothing less.
- Intro-cum-Preface as a non-willing "Wikipedian": It certainly is. Unless there's some contention over certain Indian mainstream press outlets or even Bloomberg®'s wires in Wiki boards, for that matter.
- The deletions are made by a suspicious-design of new users not limited to just Wikipedia®, but across the 'pop-Interweb'.( Or shall I be 'too' forthcoming?)
- In fact, my original-research says that it's just not the only reason Star® India has extended its censorship. I can attest[ but am not willing to engage in contributing] that the platform has already removed an episode of talk-show Koffee with Karan® following social-media backlash over perceived misogyny. In fact, my original-research also tells me that hotstar® pulled-back the whole catalogue of CINEMAX®-sky one® series Strike Back®[ in spite of territorial exclusivity] even before the preceding season/"series"( titled "Vendetta") premiered, because as it turns out: It has a 2-episodes long subplot which equated Hindutva to other forms of terrorism. The listings of Star® India's channel-listings keep showing serial rerun-cycles of the series spanning over months since that another quiet-move of their digital business, but all reruns of the Cinemax® series only go as far as the last-episode of "Retribution". The similar stuff has occurred with another thriller-series unrelated to the Home Box Office® or even AT&T® in entirety and hotstar® no longer owns the rights to it[ before it ended] so that's besides the point.
- *For the sole sake of clarity, I'm discounting the actual freshman "series" distributed by now-BBC® Studios and Cinemax® had nothing to do with it, is available standalone as Chris Ryan's Strike Back®. –Mohd.maaz864 (talk) 09:11, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
- Edit Note: Removed the formatting from ‘*’ note and fixed the "auto-incorrect" typo from the hotstar® quote informing the day-&-date schedule of LWTwJO's fresh episode. –Mohd.maaz864 (talk) 09:24, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
- Edit Note #2: Replaced the affirmative ‘Yep!’ with flashy,cosmetically-appealing template-icon preferred with those higher in the hierarchy of WP:UAL, added the ellipsis for formatting reasons at the start of 1st paragraph of statement, rephrased and reformatted the phrase detailing on the discussion. And added the signature-indicator, again in a callback to cosmetology. –Mohd.maaz864 (talk) 14:28, 18 March 2020 (UTC)
Added- I have added Says whom tag to challenge the WP:ASSERT added in RevID 944748751 that TWDC® is to be blamed/held-liable for the self-censorship practices of Star® India's S-and-P. The claim is not corroborated by any of the sources so it would also qualify as WP:FAILEDVERIFICATION in spite of zero WP:INCITE whatsoever, but since I'm extra-cautious of not playing WP:HOSTILE owing to bring at the receiving-end of it myself, I went with what I thought sounded milder. I recall seeing this claim only once by "the OP" of a subreddit post who shared one of the news-reports on censorship. C'mon...! I know that TWDC® is widely-believed to be "soulless, rapacious" empire with "creativity serial-killer" as its "USP", but just because it's widely believed to be the case that TWDC® is a uniquely such an entertainment and mass-communications empire, doesn't mean it qualifies as a fact akin to "coughing is a respiratory symptom" ipso facto. Also, let's not contribute to the picture that Murdochs are paragons of "media freedom" because of FOX®'s "Animation Domination®" or whatever, whatever.( One just needs to spend just enough of time and attention at any random commentary-lineup of FOX® News, where the
commentators"journalists" andcontributors"experts" keep railing against "liberal media". A-gain, in fairness: A trait not unique to just them, but common amongst quite a number of Conservative press.) Canards, no matter how many times reported in the non-fiction authors and press deemed WP:RELIABLE, either attributed to sketchy primary-sources or even named ones making claims — shouldn't and can't be used as a basis for WP:WIKIVOICE. It's clearly a case of WP:NOT. –Mohd.maaz864 (talk) 15:18, 18 March 2020 (UTC)
Article title discussion
This really needed a discussion whether moving to Disney+ Hotstar is appropriate. As mentioned in some of the edit comments, the overall brand is still known as Hotstar, and that would be primary topic. AngusWOOF (bark • sniff) 14:53, 12 March 2020 (UTC)
In the meantime, I am requesting RM/TR to move this back to Hotstar which is what the original article was titled prior to 11 March 2020. A request move discussion needs to take place on whether to rename it to Disney+ Hotstar. AngusWOOF (bark • sniff) 14:59, 12 March 2020 (UTC)
- Support per WP:COMMONNAME and whether "Hotstar" alone will refer to any part of the domestic service (the "Hotstar" sold internationally obviously does not include Disney+). ViperSnake151 Talk 15:08, 12 March 2020 (UTC)

- Kailash29792, that just means the upcoming app might be called Disney+Hotstar. It doesn't mean the company has been renamed to Disney+ Hotstar. The company subsidiary is still Hotstar. The product is Disney+Hotstar as a tier, and is already discussed in the article section. AngusWOOF (bark • sniff) 16:20, 12 March 2020 (UTC)

Hotstar → Disney+ Hotstar – This source has a quote by Walt Disney Company Asia Pacific and Star & Disney India president Uday Shankar: "Today, as we unveil Disney+ Hotstar, we take yet another momentous step in staying committed to our promise of delivering high-quality, impactful stories for India that have not only entertained but also made a difference in people’s lives, a promise that is even more meaningful in challenging times such as this". Since Hotstar is an Indian service, we should go by the domestic name. Kailash29792 (talk) 12:39, 4 April 2020 (UTC) —Relisting. King of ♥ ♦ ♣ ♠ 00:04, 16 April 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose as per the above discussion- Hotstar is the COMMONNAME and therefore should continue to remain until sources etc pick this up, Whilst leeway and leniency is always given to Indian articles due to lack of sources (something I support and maintain) - given this is a Disney related article I therefore would assume sources would be available and or better.
- If nothing gets covered in 2021 then I'd support moving but until then COMMONNAME should take precedence IMHO. –Davey2010Talk 14:10, 4 April 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose as the international versions of the service without Disney+ content (e.g. US, Canada) continue to operate as just "Hotstar". I would consider "Disney+ Hotstar" to be an alternate branding of the service for India only, with the overall name of the service remaining Hotstar. — stickguy (:^›)— || talk || 14:42, 4 April 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose: Less WP:CONCISE. —BarrelProof (talk) 15:33, 4 April 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose as previously mentioned, I liken this to Disney Pixar in its branding. If it's a specific product, then that part could get its own article like Disney–ABC Domestic Television in comparison to American Broadcasting Company. AngusWOOF (bark • sniff) 15:41, 4 April 2020 (UTC)
- Support The COMMONNAME policy doesn't really apply to brands and companies especially when you instantaneous moves and renames on WP as soon as acquisitions happen, e.g., Disney-21CF, Warner-AT&T etc. The (main India) service here has been renamed for all intents and purposes which should be reflected in the title as well. Gotitbro (talk) 23:24, 5 April 2020 (UTC)
- Support The corporate name has changed. It isn't like with Pixar in that it is just an acquisition, this is blantant brand renaming. It should be referred as such. Look at Disney Streaming Services and how it was changed from Bamtech. — Preceding unsigned comment added by WakandaForever188 (talk • contribs) 01:13, 9 April 2020 (UTC)
- Support As discussed above, COMMONAME policy doesn't apply to brands, especially brands that are not even five years old. Hotstar was Startv.in for 10 years that was changed when the brand rename and rebranding happened. And now this rebranding (after acquisition of Star India by Disney) should be displayed accordingly. As an example ABC Family was renamed Freeform and subsequently all wikipedia pages were renamed immediately. No need for this page to be any different.117.205.192.251 (talk) 16:34, 9 April 2020 (UTC)
- The WP:COMMONNAME policy does apply to brands, and is reinforced with various ways in which we especially try avoid following the lead of brand promoters (e.g., MOS:TM, WP:ALLCAPS, WP:TITLETM). —BarrelProof (talk) 11:44, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
- Support In agreement with Gotitbro. The COMMONNAME itself has mostly become just Disney+, in my opinion. The name change to Disney+ Hotstar is a bit overdue. Nirinsanity (talk) 17:41, 12 April 2020 (UTC)
- Relisting comment: The chronological distribution of the !votes is interesting, so relisting to see if a trend is developing here. -- King of ♥ ♦ ♣ ♠ 00:04, 16 April 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose Hotstar itself had confirmed over twitter many times that existing services in UK, US and Canada will be operating under the same name Hotstar. We can consider Disney+ Hotstar as the alternative Branding for the service in India. And even the service itself is maintaing two service logos Disney+ and Hotstar separately over thier respective contents in the Video players. I guess that's enough for us that Hotstar is maintaing its brand. Saichaitanya4496 (talk) 12:28, 17 April 2020 (UTC)

Request to make a new page for JioHotstar as Disney+ Hotstar has been rebranded.
The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
Disney+ Hotstar has been rebranded and content from JioCinema has been added to form JioHotstar. All pages in JioCinema are redirecting to JioHotstar. Though, Disney+ Hotstar or Hotstar continue to exist in other territories, so it would not be right to move this Wiki page to JioHotstar. Indedits (talk) 03:00, 14 February 2025 (UTC)
- Comment : Don't move this page as it is improper. This is absolutely not a "move" case. JioHotstar is a seperate entity. Disney+ Hotstar is available internationally too. JioStar OWNS JioHotstar.
- Important note: Also it was announced that JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar were merged to form JioHotstar. It is equally important to note that JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar have different holding and ownership patterns. The newly formed entity is entirely owned by JioStar. - Oppose rename. Based on the sources in the article, it appears the JioHotstar branding is primarily being used in India while "Hotstar" and "Disney+ Hotstar" are still being used internationally. We should wait to see if the Indian brand overtakes this one in the long term to become the common name. I don't think there is enough standalone notability for JioHotstar to warrant a split, and this article can adequately cover this rebranding and new app in a subsection. - My opinion is that the Indian and SEA versions of the service were always separate and maybe should not have been combined in a single article in the first place. This article is mostly about the Indian version, so if a split were to happen, the SEA version should be split out and this page be moved to the common name for the service in India, which may or may not be JioHotstar. The title for the SEA service article should not be just Disney+ Hotstar, but should be disambiguated with the Indian service. However, for now we should wait for the dust to settle. - Yeah, we still don't have any news on whether Disney+ in Indonesia, Malaysia & Thailand will planned to split the Hotstar brand aside. If they planned to migrate to the Disney+ PH server, they would need to informed in advance. Other than just that, I don't think the split proposal would going to be rolling out just yet. - Move:
- Jio hotstar is continuing the hotstar app & domain.
- JioCinema is redirecting to Jio Hotstar that uses hotstar history. Hence move should be alright. Ogambo obmagom (talk) 14:48, 15 February 2025 (UTC)
- JioHotstar is thus far only used in India, not in international regions where Disney+ Hotstar or just Hotstar are still operating and being used. Any move to the Indian JioHotstar name would be too much of a WP:RECENTISM bias for one region's rebranding. Trailblazer101 (talk) 15:23, 15 February 2025 (UTC)
- For transparency, there was an article created at Jio Hotstar (without spacing), but I have now redirected that back to this article as a split is not warranted yet. Trailblazer101 (talk) 17:55, 16 February 2025 (UTC)

- Comment: I think SEA version of Disney+ Hotstar should be separated from the article. Same goes for the list of original programming and original films as well. We don't know if SEA version will gonna rebrand to only Disney+ in the future, since Disney+ Hotstar in the Southeast Asia mostly from Disney+ contents. Even Hotstar India shows and films (branded as Hotstar Specials) are unavailable now in the SEA version. Enperfectify World (talk) 14:45, 18 February 2025 (UTC)
- There is absolutely no need to split them up now, as this article is relatively small and comfortable to navigate, and any split would result in both articles having questionable standalone notability. We cannot predict how notable the SEA version (or other fully Disney owned ones) will be in the future or how notable the JioHotstar version will be should it expand to other regions, and we can not ask a crystal ball to tell us. They could, hypothetically, rebrand select regions to JioHotstar years later and then sell their Disney stake, which would then leave content riddled throughout various articles. For the time being, it can all remain comfortably in this one until we have a better idea of what their branding plans are. Trailblazer101 (talk) 05:29, 19 February 2025 (UTC)
- Comment : There is no need to create/split a new article for Indian version as the current article is predominantly about the Indian service. I think the one that should be split is about the SEA one. Since the beginning, the SEA, Singapore, Canada & UK services are fully owned by Disney, and the content in those territories is primarily from Disney+. Although the Hotstar brand was introduced by Star India, I don't know if the brand was added in SEA because Star India controls them. Also, we should wait and see how the company structure is instead of hurrying. The financial year 2024-2025 is going to end on March 2025. All the companies would have to reveal about themselves in their yearly report. It will become clearer by then. Coolduckbird (talk) 05:12, 19 February 2025 (UTC)

- Separate articles ( Disney+ Hotstar for SEA & JioHotstar for India) may not meet notability guidelines right now. Also, as I mentioned, this article is mostly about Indian one and started as just Hotstar, an Indian website owned by Star India. After the acquisition by Disney India, Star India was renamed to Disney Star later. Disney Star was fully owned by Disney India, which is again, fully owned by The Walt Disney Company. Now, after the joint venture between Disney Star and Reliance & Viancom18 in 2024, Disney Star is renamed to JioStar. Disney India have minority share in JioStar (36.86%). Jiostar now owns JioHotstar. Appropriate action should be taken only when company's ownership and structure are clear. We don't have much information about it for now, except that Disney now considers JioHotstar as "Equity in the income of investees" instead of a subsidiary as mentioned in their annual report Coolduckbird (talk) 09:41, 25 February 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, don't change this page, instead create a new one for JioHotstar. As in some other countries in SEA, still the name is same. 115.99.90.9 (talk) 18:17, 24 February 2025 (UTC)
- JioHotstar is currently a redirect to this article, because it is a subtopic of Disney+ Hotstar. There is clear consensus against a split per Wikipedia's split and WP:Content fork guidelines. There needs to be enough independent coverage of JioHotstar to warrant a separate article. Trailblazer101 (talk) 18:33, 24 February 2025 (UTC)
Change the name to JioHotstar and add Disney+ Hotstar part to Disney+ page.
Hello, this page existed long before Disney plus Hotstar, as Hotstar. Hotstar was solely focused on Indian audience. After the Disney's Fox acquisition they renamed Hotstar to Disney plus Hotstar to match with their Flagship streaming Disney+. And they named their streaming service Disney plus Hotstar in some SEA countries, that's where problem began. As this page was mainly focused on Indian part of business and always was. And I think it can be fixed by putting the SEA market's info on main Disney+ page and keeping only the JioHotstar info here. This page just confuses me and I'm sure many got confused too as they both are two different streaming service. Redoneahmedd (talk) 19:22, 10 April 2025 (UTC)

Disney+ Hotstar → Hotstar – Per WP:COMMONNAME, even if it is not longer official. Because in India (base of operations) it is JioHotstar, a title which is not yet permitted, while elsewhere it has different names including Disney+ Hotstar. - Oppose for now. Given there has recently been a name change with JioHotstar being introduced for the Indian version of this service and the Disney+ branding only being in use for 5 years (since 2020), I do not think it is made clear what the common name truly is. Yes, Hotstar is generally used as a shorthand term and is the longstanding former name of this service (also used for 5 years from 2015 to 2020), but the Disney+ Hotstar name has gained traction in usage by the media since the rebranding occurred (see WP:NAMECHANGES). I feel it may be too soon to rush into determining yet another page move for this article, which could result in some unneeded complications of its scope, and there is no problem with retaining "Hotstar" as a redirect to this article because it still points readers to what they are looking for. Trailblazer101 (talk) 20:02, 29 March 2025 (UTC)
- @Kailash29792:, The discussions have been going on for a while but believe this is the first to move to "Hotstar." Would be open to changing to common name. What is there as far as references showing this is the common name?--CNMall41 (talk) 20:04, 29 March 2025 (UTC)

- It seems that my comment was construed by some as support for JioHotstar when I had not made any such stance, so let me state my position. I oppose any name change for now. I believe that in time JioHotstar will be the common name, but right now it is too soon. Arnav Bhate (talk • contribs) 05:52, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
- Comment: I too would favour JioHotstar as the title, which these Westerners (sorry no offense) oppose as some other countries haven't adopted the new name. But the country of origin is ultimately what matters right? Cos even though the name HBO Max is still used in some countries, back home in the US it was renamed Max. Kailash29792 (talk) 04:19, 1 April 2025 (UTC)
- JioHotstar is not the name that applies to the service as a whole and is only a WP:RECENT name change. Wikipedia never changes titles because the company wants us to, and we almost certainly never change titles to one used in a limited capacity. It has nothing to do with regions, Disney+ Hotstar is the predominantly used name of this service, while Hotstar still remains in use. The India version is only named JioHotstar because it was bought by JioCinema, but the other regional versions of the service remain solely under Disney. This has nothing to do with an alleged Western bias. My arguments are based on title policy and facts of the corporations behind the service. Trailblazer101 (talk) 04:24, 1 April 2025 (UTC)
- You have also not provided any sources that indicate the new name of JioHotstar or the old name of simply Hotstar are widely used in sources nowadays, and I find arguments that either would be the primary topic to be lacking. Trailblazer101 (talk) 04:28, 1 April 2025 (UTC)
- I suggested simply "Hotstar" as a neutral, non-biased title. Just like most company article titles don't have Pvt Ltd etc. Kailash29792 (talk) 04:31, 1 April 2025 (UTC)
- Legal corporate names are not the same as this service name. Disney+ Hotstar has been more widely used in sources for the past 5 years now, so I fail to see how "Hotstar" is the primary topic just because JioHotstar was announced for one region. The current article title is not biased, it has been the common name for 5 years and counting. No recent WP:NAMECHANGE automatically reverts the primary topic to a former one that is still used elsewhere. That is just not how article title policy works. Trailblazer101 (talk) 04:33, 1 April 2025 (UTC)

- Comment: I believe what you want to say is "Since Disney+ Hotstar & JioHotstar and Hotstar refer to the same service across different regions, why not use a common neutral name 'Hotstar' according to WP:COMMONNAME?" In your defence, the domain name, https://www.hotstar.com/ has not changed ever since the inception of the website. While it may be true that people commonly refer Disney+ Hotstar and JioHotstar as just Hotstar, we need multiple sources to prove this claim. Coolduckbird (talk) 09:31, 5 April 2025 (UTC)

- Support per nom. The "Disney+ Hotstar" name doesn't seem to be accurate any more or used in recent sources, so we can't use that. "JioHotstar" might be the new name, but why not just stick with the simplified WP:CONCISE form which is still sufficiently precise. - ~< Valentinianus I (talk) >~ 03:44, 11 April 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose moving to "Hotstar". While I understand the desire for a WP:CONCISE title and acknowledge the arguments regarding regional variations and WP:COMMONNAME ambiguity, reverting to the former name "Hotstar" doesn't seem like the most accurate path forward per Wikipedia's naming conventions. The service has undergone a significant, official rebranding in its primary market (India) to JioHotstar. While WP:COMMONNAME is paramount, the nominator themselves noted difficulty proving "Hotstar" remains the dominant common name post-rebrand, especially when compared to the new official name. Sticking with "Disney+ Hotstar" is inaccurate for the primary market, and reverting to "Hotstar" ignores the current official branding. The most logical step, reflecting WP:RECENTISM appropriately, would be to move the page to JioHotstar, aligning with the official name in its base of operations. The continued use of "Disney+ Hotstar" internationally can be clearly explained in the lead section and article body per WP:DETAIL, which is standard practice for entities with regional branding variations. The comparison to Twitter/X is not entirely analogous; here we have a clear, official rebranding in the primary market, making "JioHotstar" a stronger candidate based on current facts than simply reverting to a legacy name. Therefore, the best approach is to reflect the current, official name in the primary market, which is JioHotstar.

- Oppose: I oppose the proposed move to change the page name to Hotstar. Instead, it should be renamed JioHotstar. The article is mainly about the Indian service, and its title should reflect what it is known as in its home region. The name used in other regions is already mentioned in the article, and if we want to emphasize those versions, then create separate pages for each regional service. Outright Double Standards???
When it came to Max, the leadline in its wikipedia page described it as, Max (known in other countries as, and soon to be reverted globally to HBO Max).
As soon as the US name changed to Max, they put it on the wiki page name controversialy, even when it's still used as HBO Max in several other countries, and will be rebranded to the same. (WP:COMMONNAME not followed)
But here by citing the same WP:COMMONNAME it's being told that we should stick to Disney+ Hotstar.
Logically the current WP:COMMONNAME should be considered ,if you look at views of the Indian Premier League (most watched league accross sports after NFL), which was broadcasted digitally in the JioHotstar banner in 2025 (after renamed to JioHotstar) should be taken into consideration. India accounts for approx 86.72% of the then Disney Hotstar's viewership as per 2024 cycle. WP:COMMONNAME is for the current comman name (JioHotstar) not the past common name (Disney+ Hotstar). I propose to change to JioHotstar per the current common name, in the largest market i.e. India, with 87 percent viewership.
As they say numbers don't lie and last I checked Hotstar is an Indian platform (mentioned in this wikipage lead line too), so we should change it to JioHotstar asap.Even if you want to take the other common name into consideration, it's still (only) Hotstar. There is no point in keeping it names to Disney Hotstar (least commonly used name currently)... Editking100 (talk) 23:04, 11 June 2025 (UTC)

- Secondly, i saw the consensus, most people were in favour of naming it just Hotstar, why isn't it done yet, after the discussion is long being closed?
- Thirdly, i provided a fact citing Hotstars 2024 report with source that 86% of it users come from India, and it's an Indian company as mentioned in this wiki page. How can this be straightly ignored.
- I read your reply to another user in the consensus, ....... "It has nothing to do with regions, Disney+ Hotstar is the predominantly used name of this service, while Hotstar still remains in use. The India version is only named JioHotstar because it was bought by JioCinema, but the other regional versions of the service remain solely under Disney".
- (Can you just prove your claim of how it is the predominantly used name with facts) and prove my source with all the 3party sources wrong, citing some other demography is the largest user and has its common name as Disney plus Hotstar.
- Also you are factually wrong! JioCinema didn't buy Hotstar as you said, it's a JV between Viacom18, Reliance and Disney, in which Reliance via its ownership in Viacom18 became the largest shareholder and put the 'Jio' branding to it as it does with many other business verticals. - While consensus can change, the consensus established in the proposed split and requested move discussions were not in favor of renaming this article, and it would take time to adequately determine what the common name is based on which name sticks around the longest in use by all media sources. This is unlikely to change at this time, so the current consensus remains upheld. — Trailblazer101🔥 (discuss · contribs) 21:31, 12 June 2025 (UTC)

Update India-specific branding to reflect JioHotstar (name, logo, and screenshots)
Hello,
I’d like to raise a concern about how this article handles the India-specific version of the platform.
In February 2025, Disney+ Hotstar in India officially merged with JioCinema under the JioStar joint venture and was fully rebranded as JioHotstar — including a new logo, app interface, and marketing identity. This is well-documented: • TechCrunch – Hotstar and JioCinema merge into JioHotstar • Times of India – JioHotstar merger details • Campaign India – JioStar launches JioHotstar
Currently, the article uses the name “JioHotstar” for India but still displays the international Disney+ Hotstar logo and older branding in this section. This creates an inconsistency, because: • For American streaming brands (e.g., Disney+ in the U.S.), Wikipedia shows the current local branding and homepage, including elements like the Hulu hub. • For the Indian platform, despite the complete rebrand, it still shows outdated international branding and logos.
This is misleading to readers in India and does not follow Wikipedia’s WP:NPOV (neutrality) or WP:V (verifiability) guidelines, which require representing each market accurately based on reliable sources.
Request: • Update the India-specific section to display the current JioHotstar logo. • Replace the outdated international Disney+ Hotstar interface screenshot with the actual Indian homepage/interface. • Maintain Disney+ Hotstar branding only for international contexts where that name is still used (e.g., Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand).
This will ensure that the Indian platform is treated with the same accuracy and consistency as other regional versions, such as the U.S. Disney+ page.
Thanks.

Can anyone add section to mention the rebranding of Disney+ Hotstar?
Just shortly after announcement of Star rebranding to Hulu, Disney announced that Disney+ Hotstar will be rebranded to just "Disney+" on October 9, 2025, one day after Hulu's global rollout.
However, I found the page is not updated after announcement, and since the page is semi-protected, I cannot edit it. So can anyone with account help to add related information if anyone see this topic I posted? Thanks. 137.122.66.12 (talk) 02:57, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
- I've added it in the beginning of the article and the Availability section. Also only Southeast Asian region (Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand) has rebranded to Disney+, the other regions still using JioHotstar (India) and Hotstar (Singapore, Canada, and the UK) branding. JioHotstar Replaces Disney+Hotstar
The article should be renamed JioHotstar, Disney+Hotstar no longer exists in any country. Oswa.contreras (talk) 15:24, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
- There is still no consensus on this matter, per the discussions above. — Trailblazer101🔥 (discuss · contribs) 16:01, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
- In my opinion, the discussion above is applied to situation when India version of Disney+ Hotstar became JioHotstar, while other regions' version remains as either Hotstar or Disney+ Hotstar, which makes the article unnecessary to change name from its current name.
- However, after October 9, 2025, all Southeast countries' Disney+ Hotstar are rebranded to just "Disney+", leaving only Hotstar in UK/Canada/Singapore and JioHotstar in India. The change makes the article title "Disney+ Hotstar" makes no sense anymore.
- So I think maybe it is necessary to move "Disney+ Hotstar" to anything else, either Hotstar or JioHotstar. 137.122.66.12 (talk) 16:15, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
- Agreed, there's no point keeping two different streaming in same page, and they also owned by two different companies. Yes in the past it was Disney Plus Hotstar but it has changed, Disney+ from Southeast Asian countries should be added to the main page of Disney plus wiki page since they both owned by Disney Streaming, whereas JioHotstar owned by JioStar and Disney owns like 36% of it. Lack of Consensus resulting from misconceptions
lets get some facts straight here:
1. JioStar and Disney are separate companies. While Disney has a stake in JioStar, it is majority owned by Reliance Industries and run by them.
2. The JioHotstar service, launched in February 2025, is owned by JioStar. While Disney Plus is owned by The Walt Disney Company. They are both separate services with separate ownership.
3. The services in 3 SouthEast Asian countries continued to be called DisneyPlus Hotstar for the last 8 months. It was only a matter of time and convenience. Disney doesn't own the Hotstar or Star brands. They have changed to DisneyPlus now in those countries.
4. The replacement of the Star hubs worldwide with Hulu are also a result of the fact that Disney doesn't own the Star brand anymore. It is owned by JioStar. Keeping the name of the page as DisneyPlus Hotstar makes it sound like it is still owned by Disney, which would be a gross misinformation.
5. Some of you may say that the services in the Southeast Asian countries just had a rebrand and it is not the same as the Disney Plus service in the rest of the world. But that is also true for Disney Plus in the Middle East, which is run as a separate service from Disney Plus from the rest of the world. In both the cases, it is run by Disney, and has nothing to do with the Hotstar service run by JioStar. So, anything related to the Southeast Asian countries should move to the main Disney Plus page, as is the case for Disney Plus in middle east.
6. Lastly, a service called Disney Plus Hotstar doesn't even exist anywhere in the world anymore.
For those of you citing WP:COMMONNAME, in the SouthEast Asian countries, it is Disney Plus. In India, it is referred to as JioHotstar, both by the general public, and by news media.
Some of you will say, "it doesn't matter what the company refers to the service as, it matters what it is commonly known as". Well that is the point, it is commonly known as JioHotstar. It may not be so in America, but this service doesn't serve audiences in America.
8. For those of you citing WP:TOOSOON, how is 8 months too soon? Many other companies and streaming services went through name changes. Their pages never had to wait this long to reflect the change. Spitfire121 (talk) 06:53, 15 October 2025 (UTC)
- They're keep denying like people in India calls it Disney+ Hotstar but it's not, and also southeast Asian part is separated since march and is controlled by a different company but they keep citing WP:COMMONNAME, which doesn't even make any sense. It's not the same case as Hotstar to DisneyPlus Hotstar rebranding, it's like a business is splitting off and one part is rebranded and another merged into with other company. Redoneahmedd (talk) 16:48, 15 October 2025 (UTC)
- I am agree with you guys, page should be moved to Hotstar or Disney+ because Disney+ Hotstar is no more in this world. Ajitsinghbhagat (talk) 04:32, 16 October 2025 (UTC)
- No matter how many times any of you make another discussion about this or Disney Star, the present consensus will not change and these articles will not be moved. Wikipedia has very specific policies and guidelines that need to be followed. Stop bludgeoning and give it a rest. The Jio brands do not have any long-term significance and are new entities, not just straightforward rebrands, so renaming the articles is not even the correct avenue. — Trailblazer101🔥 (discuss · contribs) 05:02, 16 October 2025 (UTC)

- 1.JioHotstar(only in INDIA):- JioStar is parent company.
- 2.Hotstar(only in UK,CANADA,SINGAPORE):- owned by JioStar
- 3.Disney+ (Rest countries including UK,CANADA,SINGAPORE and excluding INDIA):- owned by Disney Entertainment
- 4.Star (Disney+) only in JAPAN:-owned by Disney Entertainment
- Lastly Disney+ Hotstar is no longer a thing because Disney rebranded it to Disney+.

- it's not matter of belief, it's fact. But understandable Wikipedia:COMMONNAME thing, why I and many asking for the change because Disney Plus has it's own page, if it didn't, it wouldn't be same case. Keeping some part of Disney Plus here and other parts there doesn't make sense, and it'll not be helpful for readers. Keeping Disney Plus Hotstar part in Disney Plus page is more sensible than keeping in JioHotstar page. And also shouldn't we update the logo as it doesn't falls under WP:Commonname?
- And also I wanna talk about the previous argument, if someone argues your opinion it doesn't mean we're some part of narrative. Redoneahmedd (talk) 15:33, 17 October 2025 (UTC)
- I have no personal interest or stake in this matter, as I have previously stated. It comes down to the facts: Dinsey+ Hotstar was separate from Disney+ and JioHotstar, the latter of which is a new entity, so this article should not be replacing it as such. This is not a straightforward rebranding. Unless someone devises a solid proposal to split the contents with sufficient notability proven for the Jio entities, the articles should not be renamed. — Trailblazer101🔥 (discuss · contribs) 16:01, 17 October 2025 (UTC)
- Yeah it could be splited in India it is widely called JioHotstar not Disney plus Hotstar.https://variety.com/2025/tv/news/jiostar-2-billion-half-year-revenue-400-million-users-1236555624/ latest variety report for example. Every news outlets reports with the JioHotstar name even the international ones. Redoneahmedd (talk) 18:38, 17 October 2025 (UTC)
- Then, editors first need to stop edit warring over the name in the article and stop making more contested requested moves for a split to be considered, which, just like at Disney Star, would require significant coverage of the new Jio platform separate from the Disney counterpart to warrant its own dedicated split article. One recent reference does not support notability on its own, as has been explained before. — Trailblazer101🔥 (discuss · contribs) 22:27, 18 October 2025 (UTC)

- Weak oppose for now: I am mostly reiterating my comments from the prior RM here. I think we need adequate sources that support "Hotstar" being the WP:COMMONNAME for this service. The name being part of "Disney+ Hotstar" and "JioHotstar" is not sufficient, nor is the fact that the service was replaced by Disney+ in some regions. Article titles are based on the frequency, commonality, recognizability, and widespread acceptance of name usage, not by what a company wants us to refer to it as. I don't think another RM should be rushed for this topic, and it may be beneficial for editors to take a wait-and-see approach before determining what name has more long-term significance, as opposed to trying to pass through another move request that has been contested in the past. The fact that this was initially requested as a speedy technical request is concerning. This issue and the Disney Star one have been beaten like a dead horse for most of this year, and I think it is time to WP:DROPTHESTICK and wait a while to re-evaluate the options and usage of the name before even remotely considering another RM. "Hotstar" itself remains a good redirect search term pointing readers to this article. "Disney+ Hotstar" and "Hotstar" were both used for 5 years, so it may be difficult to gauge which one is more preferable. — Trailblazer101🔥 (discuss · contribs) 18:00, 12 October 2025 (UTC)
- But the problem is that currently Disney+ in those markets are still using the Hotstar interface despite already include Hulu brand that replaced Star, which yet to get replaced with the global version because of the agreement. VernardoLau (talk) 18:33, 12 October 2025 (UTC)
- And how would that mean readers searching for "Hotstar" or "Disney+ Hotstar" would be confused by reaching this article? This RM, like any other, is not about the scope of the article or the product arrangements; it comes down to Wikipedia's naming conventions. — Trailblazer101🔥 (discuss · contribs) 18:44, 12 October 2025 (UTC)

I think Disney+ Hotstar is gone, Hotstar is the right name to replace it compared to JioHotstar. 114.122.105.151 (talk) 23:28, 12 October 2025 (UTC)
- JioHotstar was of course named Hotstar outside Indian markets. After all, Disney+ has the Star branding attached before. VernardoLau (talk) 13:32, 13 October 2025 (UTC)
- Support - Disney+ Hotstar branding is gone in both India (replaced by JioHotstar) and Southeast Asia (replaced by Disney+). To avoid the confusion with users, let's move the page. Also I don't think Indian users still calling the service "Disney+ Hotstar" anymore. Jack Wylde (talk) 05:54, 20 October 2025 (UTC)

- Comment: The side supporting the move has not provided any analysis of WP:RSes to support their position that Hotstar is the WP:COMMONNAME. In such cases, they will face opposition to the move as the burden lies on them to provide evidence supporting their assertion. Without this evidence, the status quo is likely to be retained. Apart from that, I have no objection to including the new logo in the infobox if such a thing were to be done per WP:LOGOS. Arnav Bhate (talk • contribs) 15:34, 21 October 2025 (UTC)
- I would be fine with compromising by including both the Disney+ Hotstar and JioHotstar logos in the infobox, simply because both are recognizable in the regions where this service has been operated. I concur with Arnav's assessment thus far. — Trailblazer101🔥 (discuss · contribs) 16:13, 21 October 2025 (UTC)
- The reason for the logo removal (by me, yesterday) is because I cannot see where it was obtained so no idea if it is fair use or not. If there is consensus to add it, we need to make sure it legally can be. --CNMall41 (talk) 18:27, 21 October 2025 (UTC)
- Oh, I checked that file's info, and you are right. This from the JioStar website could be an alternative. Arnav Bhate (talk • contribs) 08:36, 22 October 2025 (UTC)

Logo
@CNMall41: where can you see the disney+ hotstar logo on which website? Are you accessing it from India? The link I provided works intermittently, however you can see the url of the logo on the JioStar portfolio page matches. Arnav Bhate (talk • contribs) 05:13, 4 January 2026 (UTC)
- Here is one of the links. You get there by searching Google (in the U.S.) for Jiostar which brings up JioHotsar and any of the links you go to will show it. I say the logo is kept to match the best known name as the Jjiostar logo is already used elsewhere on the page. --CNMall41 (talk) 05:18, 4 January 2026 (UTC)
- There is no Disney+ Hotstar logo on this page for me, and why are you accessing the Indian version of the website from the US anyway? Perhaps you can share a screenshot. Also WP:LOGOS is a guideline that is to be generally followed. Arnav Bhate (talk • contribs) 06:35, 4 January 2026 (UTC)
- Top left hand corner. Note the domain is .in as well. When you click on the page, there is statement saying that JioStar is not available in the U.S. and to go here, which has no logo, but doesn't mention JioStar at all and ultimately leads to Hulu. I am very familiar with the guideline as well and it is being followed. --CNMall41 (talk) 06:43, 4 January 2026 (UTC)
- The top left hand corner has the textless version of the JioHotstar logo. Arnav Bhate (talk • contribs) 02:33, 5 January 2026 (UTC)
- Top left hand corner of what? The link I provided shows Disney + Hotstar. Also, when you say "textless version," are you referring to the logo you placed in the information box or something different? --CNMall41 (talk) 04:15, 5 January 2026 (UTC)
- Yes textless version of the logo I placed in the infobox. I guess this is a geoip problem. I am in India and getting the JioHotstar logo, you are in US and do not. Arnav Bhate (talk • contribs) 05:18, 5 January 2026 (UTC)
- When I was in Japan, on visiting the website, I got a message saying JioHotstar is not available there, with the JioHotstar logo. I wonder why the US is getting a different logo. But since the service is not available in the US, I don't think the logo shown in the US should matter. Arnav Bhate (talk • contribs) 05:45, 5 January 2026 (UTC)

Disney+ Hotstar → JioHotstar – The article was still titled Disney+ Hotstar because in certain markets the name remained. But that has changed. Either way, since it is an Indian service, which should be the default standard since it has been JioHotstar for over a year now. Even Twitter was recently retitled X. Kailash29792 (talk) 05:46, 28 February 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose - This has been discussed on this page numerous times (including two recent failed move requests). This is in addition to other pages that Jiostar bludgeoners have attempted to change the name of. Wikipedia is not here to rebrand for companies anytime they want to change the name. We keep the name that it is best known as in the market it is represented. In this case, it would be Disney+ Hotstar. --CNMall41 (talk) 03:48, 1 March 2026 (UTC)
- Support - Disney India only owns 36.84% of JioStar, the parent company of the streaming service, while Viacom18 owns 46.82% of the service, the company is also based in India and was renamed. The name Disney+ Hotstar is only known internationally. XyloQuip289 (talk) 21:29, 1 March 2026 (UTC)

- Support move to Hotstar as per Jack Wylde's comment below. Vestrian24Bio 02:42, 3 March 2026 (UTC)
- Support, but move the page to Hotstar instead - "Disney+ Hotstar" brand is no longer available and has been replaced by JioHotstar in India, and Disney+ in Southeast Asia, but in Canada, UK, and Singapore, it still named "Hotstar". Maybe moving to Hotstar would be perfect, also Hotstar is the most commonly used as well. Jack Wylde (talk) 18:31, 2 March 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose as proposed: No evidence has been provided to support that the common name has changed. The Twitter/X scenario holds no bearing here. At this rate, I would like to see statistical evidence on which names of the service are more commonly used by sources and/or searched for on the encyclopedia, rather than the same editors just rehashing the same opinions. Both Hotstar and Disney+ Hotstar have more historical value and have been used longer than JioHotstar. Without any actual evidence substantiating the proposed renames are presented, there is not much for us to go off of based on our article naming policies. — Trailblazer101🔥 (discuss · contribs) 03:39, 3 March 2026 (UTC)

- Sorry. I just reread what I wrote and don't think I was clear. The "disney+ hotstar" search term does not show at all for those five years. So, even when it was Hotstar previously and then the name change to Disney+ Hotstar that search term did not show. Search terms are often an indicator but do not necessarily establish common name. In fact, I doubt most people during the last five years typed the "+" sign in any search for Disnety+ Hotstar, even when the company wanted to rebrand to that name. --CNMall41 (talk) 06:57, 3 March 2026 (UTC)

Closing comment: No consensus. After 7 days of discussion, editors presented mixed arguments regarding whether the article should be moved from "Disney+ Hotstar" to "Hotstar". The discussion did not demonstrate a clear consensus to move the page, so the article title remains unchanged.
