Domain name registration
Domain registration is (becoming) a big business with prices of $2,000,000.00 for for instance random.com . It would be great to have a section on this particular business model, the history and reasons. Also the price structure for ultra short domains (bit.ly, lnkd.in ) would be nice. Consideration of “tokenized domain ownership on-chain” developments
I’d like to raise a topic for discussion regarding the article’s coverage of modern developments in domain name systems.
There has been increasing interest and activity in the space around on-chain mechanisms for owning and managing domain names (sometimes described as “tokenized domain ownership on chain”). These models differ from traditional DNS in how ownership and transfers are recorded and verified, and some stakeholders see them as relevant to the broader context of domain name system evolution.
Should we consider whether a section or reference is appropriate here to reflect these developments? I am mentioning this for editors to discuss and decide — I’m not proposing specific text or edits at this time.
For transparency, I am an editor with an association to Namefi (https://namefi.io). to avoid a conflict of interest I should stay away adding content related to my business association, but I think the topic may be worth evaluating for inclusion under a neutral, verifiable context. Looking forward to others’ input.

- First, thanks for being upfront about the conflict of interest. I believe it's required that if a coi exists, you have to make a declaration on your userpage advising the specifics of it - see WP:COI#howtodisclose.
- As to the topic, I'm not sure I'm seeing how exactly it specifically fits into the domain name system proper. It seems to be focused entirely on domain ownership in a tokenized manner, but that's separate and distinct from the DNS system. Based on limited reading on the namefi site, it appears that DNS is managed exactly the same as non-tokenized domains - the DNS records aren't on the chain, only domain ownership. namefi's DNS is hosted on google, which seems to bear that out. But I may be misunderstanding. I think the material would probably be more relevant to the Domain Name Registration page. cheers. anastrophe, an editor he is. 03:08, 22 January 2026 (UTC)
