I find this section strange - the lead section should have the overview and everything below the TOC should be a detailed article on the topic. Right now, if we count the lead, we have two "overview" sections. I'll remove that "second" section in a few days if there are no objections, while also making sure that cited claims are added to other appropriate sections if not already present. byteflush Talk 00:13, 24 September 2025 (UTC)
- I agree, the overview section seems to feel extremely out of place and, to be quite honest, poorly written or written by AI. Two paragraphs begin with "The Dot-com bubble burst", including the second sentence. The first paragraph seems completely unfinished (it's just one sentence).Nothing in this section feels descriptive. It's not a good sign that I'm extremely confused when I'm trying to learn about the Dot-com bubble, and the second sentence in the Overview section says "The dot-com bubble burst" without any context or definitions. I was honestly surprised at the quality of this page before scrolling down past the Background and Overview, and finding much better written work starting at "Prelude to the Bubble". I'd very much support the removal of this Overview section, and potentially even the Background section since it's so short and doesn't provide any additional context besides examples of other tech-related stock market jumps. ~2025-38504-07 (talk) 21:32, 4 December 2025 (UTC)
- After scouring through the history, it seems like the entire Overview section used to be a lengthy chunk of the "History of the World Wide Web" Wikipedia page (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=History_of_the_World_Wide_Web&oldid=1082891050), and on April 15, 2022, was moved into this page. Since then, it's gone through many edits, revisions, and truncations. In any case, I'd still support its removal, as it detracts from the more relevant content of this page.
