Supposed slang expression
I have deleted the sections of this article describing the supposed slang expression "foid", a person who "[spends] large amounts of time researching specialist and often obscure subjects via the internet." I've been unable to verify that this slang term is actually in use, and there were no references for it. Perhaps that part of the article was added as a joke. If "foid" really is a slang term with that meaning, and someone wants to document it on Wikipedia, they should create a new, separate article with a different title -- something along the lines of "Foid (slang)". This hypothetical new article should cite reliable references. — Mudwater 23:26, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
Other definitions
In the travel industry, FOID is Form of ID. Might need a placeholder page and disambiguation entry. 38.98.183.33 20:12, 18 July 2007 (UTC)Guest Jennifer
New slang
previous slang suggested here 18 years ago doesn't seem to have stuck but Foid as a slang for females with a negative connotation seems to be in use though if it's going to stick is unknown ~2026-79477-4 (talk) 06:19, 27 February 2026 (UTC)
- This is a disambiguation page, so each entry is a link to an actual Wikipedia article. Additional meanings that don't have articles should not be included here. See WP:DAB for more information. But if it's any consolation, the slang expression you're talking about is included on Wiktionary, at wikt:foid — Mudwater (Talk) 12:14, 27 February 2026 (UTC)
- Glossary of 2020s slang#f now contains content about "foid". We can see a very clear spike in pageviews on this page corresponding to when this term gained prevalence, so it is appropriate to have this linked here so that people can understand this harmful terminology. - In an attempt to get more opinions about this, I've posted about it at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Disambiguation#Disambiguation page entry for a word? — Mudwater (Talk) 01:10, 28 March 2026 (UTC)
