Removal of inaccurate terminology regarding type of government
I am proposing the removal of the following verbiage when describing the type of government, “ democratic republic, representative democracy, or”
There are no official documents that describe the United States Government in these terms. The United States is a Constitutional Republic. In the Constitution, which sets forth the basis of our government does not mention the word “democratic” once. 64.124.56.253 (talk) 11:33, 19 September 2025 (UTC)
Gendered language
Hello,
I’d like to report an issue regarding the use of gendered language on your page. The sentence currently reads:
“The highest elected official of each state is the Governor, with below him being the Lieutenant Governor.”
The use of “him” here assumes the Governor is male, which isn’t accurate or inclusive. Many U.S. states have had female or nonbinary governors, and Wikipedia strives to use neutral, inclusive language.
I recommend updating this sentence to use gender-neutral phrasing such as:
“with below them being the Lieutenant Governor,” or “with the Lieutenant Governor serving below the Governor.”
This small change would make the text more accurate and consistent with Wikipedia’s neutral point of view policy.
