Ferungulata and Fereuungulata
This article starts off being about the tradition cohort defined by Gaylord Simpson and then adds that it has been redefined on the basis of molecular evidence by Peter Waddle (uncited). The way it is written is as if the article is on the traditional definition, with the molecular evidence added as an update. However, the infobox gives a more modern classification, and wrongly includes Pegasoferae (bats are not part of either definition discussed in this article; it should be Zooamata for Waddle's scheme).
The article or the infobox needs changing. One approach is to make a new article for Fereuungulata and change the infobox here to the traditional Simpson grouping (including elephants etc). The alternative approach is to rewrite the article and have sections on both classifications. I am willing to attempt this, but which is the best approach? Recent trends seem to be towards fewer, more comprehensive articles, rather than lots of smaller, more specific ones.Jts1882 (talk) 11:55, 12 November 2016 (UTC)
Merge Pan-Euungulata into this article
The clade isn't that widely used , and because the clade isn't that different in scope from Euungulata, I think the topic is best covered in the Ferungulata article. Hemiauchenia (talk) 00:00, 31 March 2026 (UTC)
- Support per nom. - UtherSRG (talk) 13:58, 31 March 2026 (UTC)
- Support some kind of merge, although I'm curious why it shouldn't be merged into Ungulate (maybe as a section in Ungulate#Evolutionary history) instead? Chaotic Enby (talk · contribs) 13:45, 2 April 2026 (UTC)
- Because Pan-Euungulata includes Euungulata by definition, Euungulata is a subtopic of Pan-Euungulata not the other way around. Therefore it makes sense to merge into the next clade up. I think it makes sense to have some mention of Pan-Euungulata at ungulate though. Hemiauchenia (talk) 17:46, 2 April 2026 (UTC)
- That does make sense, thanks! Chaotic Enby (talk · contribs) 17:52, 2 April 2026 (UTC)
