I'm going to be holding a vote to add Wikizilla (http://wikizilla.org) as an external link to this page and every single other page related to the Godzilla and Gamera franchises. I hope that by 2 weeks from when I post this we can start wrapping up on a decision.

As you may or may not know, there was recently a vote on the SpaceGodzilla talk page asking for Wikizilla to have external links leading to their site at the bottom of these pages. It was eventually agreed upon and the link was added to the SpaceGodzilla page. I tried to add these links to other pages and I accept that was a mistake and take full responsibility for it.

I'd like to stress the fact that Wikizilla is NOT the Godzilla Wikia and has since moved to a new website (at http://wikizilla.org ) as mentioned above.

I'd also like to clarify that I am not trying to add Wikizilla as a source or reference but rather merely as an external link. Other wikis are linked to in their franchise pages like Bulbapedia for Pokemon and Infosphere for Futurama and Wookiepedia for Star Wars and Memory Alpha for Star Trek, etc. EncyclopediaGojira (talk) 18:29, 30th January 2017 (UTC)

checkY As much as I dislike Wikizilla for its lack of references and behind the scenes info (doesn't hold a candle to Memory Alpha and Wookiepedia) I agree it should be added. Mariomassone (talk) 22:54, 30 January 2017 (UTC)
checkY I've seen the arguments made and they've presented a very strong case for this. I approve. Armegon (talk) 05:03, 31 January 2017 (UTC)
Comment - It's customary to indicate the benefits behind a proposal. I've not seen this described. On the face of it, I don't like just blanket approval of every page being linked to wikizilla. It's a fan site, nothing wrong with that, but it is commercial, and putting in these links indiscriminately comes across as advertising to me. Alaney2k (talk) 15:37, 31 January 2017 (UTC)
http://wikizilla.org does not have any advertisements. To reiterate, Wikizilla is not the Godzilla Wikia (godzilla.wikia). 493Titanollante (talk) 20:58, 31 January 2017 (UTC)
Ok. My mistake. But what information does wikizilla have that is not present here? Alaney2k (talk) 14:35, 1 February 2017 (UTC)
It's much more in depth and possesses a lot of trivia and information that isn't strictly laid out in the movies. Plus it contains far more information on topics such as Toho's tokusatsu shows, the individual monsters themselves (such as roar information, design details, all of the monsters' appearances) and more things like galleries of images and monsters that aren't big enough to have their own pages here and infinitely more information on Godzilla video games and other aspects of the franchise. EncyclopediaGojira (talk) 16:20, 3rd February 2017 (UTC)
checkY I support the additions of the links to Wikizilla.org. 493Titanollante (talk) 20:58, 31 January 2017 (UTC)

Okay it's been almost 3 weeks now and there have been zero dissenting votes. I am counting this as a binding vote and will soon move forward with adding links to all the Godzilla pages. EncyclopediaGojira (talk) 23:44, 16th February 2017 (UTC)

Under the Cultural Impact sub-section, change 'Jaws (1995) to Jaws (1975)'. Jaws came out in 1975, not 1995. The sourcing is correct, this is likely a typo.  Preceding unsigned comment added by Ledvelvet21 (talkcontribs)

Good or evil?

Godzilla does actually go out of his way to save humans at least in some older films, an example is in Terror of Mechagodzilla there are two kids about to be stomped by Titanosaurus. They cry out to Godzilla to save them and he appears, though it's not shown if they were saved.  Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:C7D:DA42:9800:89C5:58ED:3AF6:C1B6 (talk) 22:22, 1 July 2019 (UTC)

Size and Special Effect Details Update

The page still doesn't list his latest & currently greatest size. In Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters, he is at least 318.8 meters and 100,000 tonnes, as seen in a quick shot of a computer screen used by the humans. The fact that Godzilla has been portrayed in anime format for the first time, at least, since the obscure Godzillaland OVAs, or we could say he has been portrayed in anime format for the first time in a movie. 112.201.172.46 (talk) 11:31, 8 July 2018 (UTC)

We should first find verifiable sources confirming the size before adding anything. Armegon (talk) 13:44, 8 July 2018 (UTC)

Dispute over Sizing: Despite the link to Toho Studios calling the original Godzilla (1954) as 50m tall, the English language version Godzilla: King of the Monsters refers to Godzilla as variously 400' tall and 300' tall. Godzilla holds a train car in his mouth easily and his foot is somewhat shorter than the train car (perhaps 3/4 of the length). In 1954, those cars were 18 meters (59') long, 2.8 (9') meters wide, and 3.5 meters (11.5') high (https://locomotive.fandom.com/wiki/Eidan_500_series), suggesting that 300-400' high is more believable.  Preceding unsigned comment added by EvanRobinson (talkcontribs) 02:28, 26 September 2020 (UTC)

Godzilla Earth's height

Should we consider changing Godzilla Earth's height to 318.8 meters instead of 300 meters since one of the movies says he's 318.8 meters on a computer screen?--VaderRaptor 22:17, 31 August 2021 (UTC)

We would have to cite secondary sources (reliable articles) rather than primary sources (the movie). Are there sources that conflict one or the other? If so, we can say "this source reports this height however this source reports that height" etc. Armegon (talk) 06:53, 1 September 2021 (UTC)

I got curious and went digging: it was updated by a bot in this edit from an older ISBN-10. This totally legitimate looking site of which I have not verified the reliability lists both old ISBNs as for a digital edition, and the one you provided as a print edition of the same book.

Having a last appearance

Last appearances are only used for, well their last appearance, not their latest appearances. Since they're still making Godzilla films and there are no plans of stopping, last appearance is inappropriate to use in this article. JDDJS (talk) 13:04, 17 November 2017 (UTC) JDDJS (talk) 13:04, 17 November 2017 (UTC)

You're taking the word "last" too literal here. In this context, Last appearance does not mean the same as "final" appearance, it means what was the most latest film the character appeared in. As of now, Godzilla's last appearance in any movie was Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters. There is no rule on Wiki's Manual of Style guidelines that state that "last appearances" should be removed, therefore, it should not be removed from the article. Do we list Godzilla's latest appearance as his last appearance, even though there are more films in production, or do we leave it blank until/unless the franchise is retired? JDDJS (talk) 19:34, 17 November 2017 (UTC)

Like I said, you're taking "last" appearance too literal. In this context, "last" does not mean the same as "final". It's like when someone asks you "when was the last time you saw this or that", it does not mean the "final" time you will ever see it, it means what was the "latest" you saw this or that. Armegon (talk) 19:50, 17 November 2017 (UTC)
Can you point to another article that uses last appearance in a similar context? JDDJS (talk) 21:13, 17 November 2017 (UTC)
I thought you'd never ask. There's plenty that use last appearance in similar context. Check it... Tony Montana, Gamera, King Kong, Zilla, Anguirus, Rodan, Mothra, Mechagodzilla, King Ghidorah, Mechani-Kong... the list goes on for Godzilla's rogues gallery. Wrong description for the photo

"Godzilla as portrayed by Haruo Nakajima via suitmation in Godzilla (1954)" is only correct in general sense because Hauro Nakajima played Godzilla in most suitmation scenes. However, the image used is a publicity still and the person who wore the suit for that occassion was modeller Eizo Kaimai not Haruo Nakajima. So to be correct either the photo should be changed or the description. https://www.jvta.net/co/akenomyojo124/ https://yaman-blog.seesaa.net/article/474917991.html Most set photos from the original do show Nakajima but please keep in mind the other suit actor, Katsumi Tezuka, is the man wearing the Godzilla suit in the scenes near the Diet building. I didn't change either the photo or description because I think it's a very serious thing to change the main photo of such a large article and I understand it's much more preferable to include the name of Godzilla's most famous actor and not the modeller so this post was just made fyi to inform you it's incorrect. MrCogito01 (talk) 16:28, 21 April 2025 (UTC)

I’m not disregarding anything, but reliability has to be considered. How reliable are these sources? One is a blog, so we can’t use that one. But how reliable is the JVTA source? Furthermore, are there more sources confirming this? Armegon (talk) 18:39, 21 April 2025 (UTC)
https://ameblo.jp/gara999/entry-12488593813.html
Another. If it's something that only Japanese genre experts are talking about but it lacks some easier to find sources in English (or Japanese, but yeah they're not that easy to get those books and magazines) then I've got nothing just wanted to issue a small correction in the discussion tab so at least the information is out there in some form otherwise I would've simply changed the article itself.
Well, ok the Japanese version of the Wiki article for Eizo Kaimai 開米栄三 and I believe for the original Godzilla film mention it too and the source given is "Godzilla Research Reader" or "初代ゴジラ研究読本 2014, pp. 182–191, 取材・文:友井健人「INTERVIEW 造型助手 開米栄三」" MrCogito01 (talk) 00:19, 22 April 2025 (UTC)
It would be weird to add description to the main photo of the article that reads "Godzilla as portrayed by Eizo Kaimi" because we just know he wore the suit for that particular publicity shoot session... and possibly later when the crew made a Godzilla suit that was shipped to the U.S. for "Volcano Monster" movie with him being the tallest serving as the model for the intended American actor. I mean it would be weird because it was a pretty unusual situation for him and doesn't exemplify the situation very well so if someone were to ask me I'd just keep the photo but leave out the detail who portrayed Godzilla for that occassion (because the information can be found in the text) just like what the Japanese version of the article did. Discussion at Talk:Zilla (Godzilla)

Me and an IP have discussed the issue of how some information on the Zilla (Godzilla) article have been presented, or rather misrepresented -- and we both have come to an agreement on how to improve the article. However, the overhaul of an entire article cannot rest on the decision of two editors. Therefore, I invite those interested to the discussion at the article's talk page and provide your two cents. Some of the edits we've proposed may invoke resistance, or even controversy, so mass consensus is needed before we implement our edits. Armegon (talk) 05:50, 14 June 2025 (UTC)
