- According to the article Acronym and initialism, an acronym is a form of abbreviation, so all acronyms are abbreviations but not all abbreviations are acronyms. Nagelfar (talk) 04:02, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

Hg → HG – The overwhelming majority of topics here are abbreviated as "HG" rather than "Hg." There is also no reason for the chemical symbol to be the in the lede. GilaMonster536 (talk) 16:17, 24 March 2026 (UTC)
