I'm always glad to see Cat 5 storms at GAN, so I'll review it (also because I have an active GAN).

Lead

  • " The twelfth named storm, fourth hurricane, and third major hurricane of the 2023 Atlantic hurricane season" - source?
  • "Northern Leeward Islands" - northern doesn't need to be capitalized
  • "Lee soon entered into an environment of increasing wind shear and moved into increasingly cooler water, causing the system to slowly weaken as it passed near Bermuda and New England, and to undergo the transition into an extratropical cyclone." - too much for one sentence

Met history

  • Can you split it into three paragraphs?
  • What's the difference between the wave emerging west Africa on September 1, and emerging on the next day?
  • "A broad surface low formed by September 4, which acquired multiple low-level bands developing and a well-defined center on the next day.[1][4] Consequently, Tropical Depression Thirteen developed at 12:00 UTC that day " - the timing is confusing here, when you say "next day" and "that day", but only say the date once. I suggest reorganizing the sentences here.
  • "the depression quickly strengthened into Tropical Storm Lee six hours later and a then a hurricane by late on September 6" - extra word in there
  • You have a lot of stuff only cited to advisory/discussion number 6. I don't believe you have enough citations and need to add more to refs 5 and 6
  • You don't really talk about the structural evolution of Lee. You mention the ragged eye forming, and then suddenly it's a cat 5. I understand it was rapid, but you need more information here to describe the changes.
  • "The pace of weakening quickened as the day progressed, and Lee fell below major hurricane status by late on September 9,[1] according to data from an evening hurricane hunters mission revealing that the storm was undergoing an eyewall replacement cycle and still being adversely affected by wind shear." - too much for one sentence
  • Fixed.
  • "As a result, Lee intensified to Category 3 strength once again" - you never specified earlier that Cat 3 was major hurricane strength. You just go from Cat 2 to Cat 4. You need to mention the Saffir-Simpson scale somewhere in the article, as well as establish that Category 3 is a major hurricane.
  • Fixed
  • "Then, on the morning of September 14, Lee became a Category 1 hurricane while approaching Bermuda,[16] which it passed to the west by 185 mi (300 km) later in the day." - the wording is a bit awkward here, could you rewrite?
  • "Later that day and throughout the next two days, the extratropical cyclone made several landfalls in Atlantic Canada before moving into the northern Atlantic and merging with another extratropical low late on September 18." - you should go into more detail here, since you mention the multiple Canadian landfalls in the lead
  • This is better, but you have two "before" in the same sentences. I suggest splitting up that last sentence. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 00:16, 30 May 2026 (UTC)
  • Fixed

Preparations

  • Could you reorganize the section so it's by paragraphs, instead of having 11 different sub-sections?
  • Was Bermuda ever under a hurricane watch/warning?
  • "New York State Governor Kathy Hochul deployed fifty National Guard members to Long Island in preparation of the storm's arrival." - was the storm ever expected to hit New York?
  • "Rhode Island Lieutenant Governor Sabina Matos reminded municipalities to update their hazard mitigation plans during a press conference with Governor Dan McKee and other state officials." - is this important or trivia?
  • "Utility workers from as far as Tennessee were brought into the state to help quickly restore power in case of outages and boat owners were advised to secure their boats by the Maine Harbor Master's Association." - this should be split into two sentences, as it covers two different ideas.
  • "On September 15, New Brunswick Emergency Measures Organization director Kyle Leavitt was joined by Premier Blaine Higgs and other officials in a press conference. " - this feels like trivia/newspaper. Wikipedia is not the news
  • "Leavitt warned of hazardous driving conditions and urged residents to stay home, as well as advising them to complete any preparations by Friday." - the "Friday" means nothing
  • "On September 15, a press conference was held with several provincial officials. " - this also feels trivial, and if the whole Canadian section was one paragraph, this could flow a lot smoother.
  • "A high surf warning was also issued for both territories." - unsourced

Impact

  • "The House of Assembly moved their September 15 meeting date to September 22." - this feels like preparations
  • "Bermuda suffered tropical storm conditions. " - suffered sounds dramatic, when the island is pretty well-built to withstand hurricanes
  • "51 miles per hour (82 km/h)" - sound the units
  • "Up to 11,342 people lost power" - up to, or was it 11,342?
  • "and the Devonshire and St. George's bus depots had significant power failures, causing them to be closed until September 16. " - this feels like a separate statment than the first half of this sentence
  • You shouldn't start a clause after a semicolon with "and". It would be like starting a sentence with "and". You can get rid of the semicolon and "And" and. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 00:25, 30 May 2026 (UTC)
  • Fixed
  • "Total damages in Canada and Bermuda were estimated at USD$30 million" - this section is about Bermuda
  • I hate to be picky, but doesn't the source say the $30 million in damage was between Bermuda and Canada, not just Canada? ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 00:25, 30 May 2026 (UTC)
  • The TCR says that minor damage was reported there, but I can't do anything else.
  • Can all of the United States be under a single section, rather than having multiple sub-sections?
  • "New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu announced that utility crews were being staged across the state to quickly respond to power outages and warned residents to not be complacent." - this sounds like something that happens with every storm, that it's not even necessary
  • Removed
  • "On Mount Washington, gusts reached up to 96 mph (154 km/h)." - up to? Or was it 96 mph?
  • Do you understand the difference between "up to 96 mph" and "96 mph"? ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 00:25, 30 May 2026 (UTC)
  • Paywall.
  • That doesn't answer my question. Do you understand the difference between "up to 96 mph" and "96 mph"? ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 18:45, 15 June 2026 (UTC)
  • The source doesn't say gusts reached "up to 96 mph", it says that gusts reached 96 mph. "Up to 96 mph" means it could've been less than 96. That's the point I was trying to make. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 16:09, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
  • "On September 16, wind damage occurred across southeastern portions of the state, where trees were down, including some that fell over a portion of SR 11 in Aroostook County, forcing a closure, and more than 92,000 power outages occurred." - too much for one sentence
  • "An Ohio man was also injured while driving on SR 11 in Moro Plantation after a downed tree went through his windshield" - why does it matter he's from Ohio? What are you implying? :P
  • "As of the afternoon of September 16, about 94,000 customers in Maine were without power." - why "as of"?
  • Fixed
  • Were there any other examples of damage in Maine?
  • Can you reorganize Canada into paragraphs instead of sub-sections?
  • "The ferry service to and from Grand Manan was suspended and trees were felled throughout the province, sometimes taking utility poles and wires with them. " - the first part was preparations, but the second part was impact
  • "Low-lying areas in Saint John and Fredericton suffered from flooding, and several historic trees were knocked over in Saint John." - you already mentioned falling trees in the province, so I'm not sure what the historic part has to do with it.
  • "Over 200,000 customers lost electricity." - the section said 140,000 earlier
  • I'm assuming that the 140,000 was on September 16, while the 200,000 is the total.
  • What's the significance of the lower total then? I suggest just using the 200,000 per the other source. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 20:20, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
  • "A utility pole caught fire in Stoney Island and coastal roads were inundated by storm surge, with several roads in the Eastern Shore region being destroyed by storm surge. " - again, you have two different ideas here. Separate the utility pole fore from the damaged roads.
  • The different idea I mentioned was the utility pole catching fire being different from the storm surge. You split it so that the surge is mentioned in two sentences unnecessarily. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 00:25, 30 May 2026 (UTC)
  • Fixed
  • "73 miles per hour (117 km/h)" - again, abbreviate the units
  • "Northumberland Ferries Limited canceled ferry crossings between Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island on Saturday." - isn't this preparations? And again, the day of the week isn't helpful
  • "Maritime Electric stationed utility crews throughout the province to respond to any potential power outages." - I believe this was already mentioned in preparations
  • "Flights were also cancelled to and from Charlottetown Airport." - same here
  • Are there any other impacts in Canada other than downed trees/power lines and damaged roads?

The article is decent, but there are some wonky parts, and other parts shorts on detail. Still, I don't think it'll be too hard to fix it up. Let me know if you have any questions. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 22:03, 6 May 2026 (UTC)

I'll get here after the Beryl FAC. GiftedIceCream 13:43, 21 May 2026 (UTC)
What do you mean? You intend to nominate Beryl for FAC, and you don't have time to get around to these comments? Would you like me to leave the GAN open then? ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 01:24, 23 May 2026 (UTC)
Done everything other than the first one... GiftedIceCream 14:36, 28 May 2026 (UTC)
Can't find a source, esp because of the unnamed. GiftedIceCream 14:51, 29 May 2026 (UTC)
@HurricanehinkRemoved the statement. GiftedIceCream 19:02, 29 May 2026 (UTC)

I replied to a few things that still need addressing. In the future, can you reply to each comment to either say that you fixed it, or done, or something like that. You missed a few things entirely, that's why I brought it up. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 00:25, 30 May 2026 (UTC) Can you summarize or reply to the things you haven't done yet? ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 18:01, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
