I am a paid editor and have a conflict of interest, so I am raising this policy concern here rather than editing the article directly. I also note that the article is currently tagged for COI.
The final paragraph reporting MTN Group results and referring to a €4 billion whistleblower complaint raises several policy concerns.
On March 16th, 2026, MTN Group reports exceptional 2025 results, unveils evolved platform strategy [45] The same day, a €4 billion ($4.3 billion) whistleblower complaint against MTN Group is reported to be making its way through the US Securities Exchange Commission in the United States of America; a contingent liability of up about 70% of the value of MTN’s recently announced $6.2-billion (R103-billion) merger with IHS Towers. AC Shining Stars (ACS), the claimant, claims that this liability has not been disclosed in MTN’s official 2025 financial statements or the IHS merger proxy filings.[46][47]
The paragraph appears to be in breach of Wikipedia policy for the following reasons:
1) Sourcing (WP:RS / WP:V) The claim appears to rely on limited coverage, including primary material and reporting based on statements by the complainant. There does not appear to be sufficient high-quality, independent secondary sourcing to support the claims as presented. The reference to a €4 billion “contingent liability” is not clearly attributed to a reliable, independent source, and the nature of the claims is presented with a level of detail and certainty that is not supported by the available sourcing. This raises concerns about verifiability and neutrality.
2) Relevance to the subject (WP:UNDUE / WP:NOTNEWS) The allegation concerns MTN Group rather than IHS Towers. While there is a proposed transaction between the companies, they remain separate entities. The material does not appear to relate directly to the operations, governance, or activities of IHS Towers, and it is not evident that the allegation is sufficiently direct or material to IHS Towers to justify inclusion in this article.
3) Undue weight and recentism (WP:UNDUE / WP:RECENT) This appears to be a single, early-stage allegation with very limited coverage. Giving it a full paragraph, with detailed financial framing, risks giving it disproportionate weight relative to its significance.
Given the above, I suggest that the paragraph is removed. If editors consider that some mention is warranted, I suggest it should be substantially reduced, clearly attributed, and supported by stronger independent sources.
I would also welcome views on whether the current COI tag remains necessary once this content issue has been resolved, or whether it may be appropriate to remove it at that point.
