Comments from Noleander
- Image free to use? this image apparently has a copyright issue, indicated by deletion discussion here. I'm not a copyright expert, so cannot assess the merits of the copyright issue (and, a lot of the discussion in not in English).
- Suggest more uniform approach to bundling footnotes. Some sentence bundle by using 2 or more consecutive "ref" pairs, e.g.
- ... of the film's characters dominating search rankings,[172][173][174]
- but other bundles use a single "ref" pair holding the Template:bulleted list e.g.
- ... fandom being referred to as "the [[Lion#Group_organisation|Pride]]".<ref>{{bulleted list| | {{Cite magazine |last=Rudolph ...
- Consider using one approach or the other thru entire article. Uniformity is definitely required for FA status, but GA requirements are not as strict. If you are planning on taking the article to FA, it is easier to do it now, rather than later.
- Caption ending with period: Arden Cho, May Hong, and Ji-young Yoo voice Rumi, Mira, and Zoey respectively. The guideline MOS:CAPFRAG suggests that a period is not appropriate in captions that are not full sentences.
- Name of university: Putu Marvitta Adira Prastiwi and Nissa Puspitaning Adni at Udayana University elaborate on themes of ... it is unusual to name the college that a source works at. Unless there is a compelling reason the reader needs to know the specific college, they should simply be described by their occupation e.g. "academics" or "scholars" etc.
- Source authors RS? Prastiwi, Putu Marvitta Adira; Adni, Nissa Puspitaning (August 2025). "Postmodern Feminism in the Movie K-Pop Demon Hunters (2025)". Jurnal Riset Rumpun Ilmu Bahasa. 4 (2): 744–754. Retrieved October 16, 2025. What is the occupation of the authors? Professors? post-grads? PhD students? Undergrad students? I googled one of the names, and it suggests they are undergrads. If they are undergrad, the source may not qualify as a WP:RS, unless the journal Jurnal Riset Rumpun Ilmu Bahasa is peer reviewed.
- Confusing sentence: A sing-along version of the film was released theatrically in select theaters in North America, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand from August 23–24, 2025,[88][89][90][91] later receiving a second theatrical release for October 31 – November 2. This version was subsequently released on Netflix.
- a) " ... receiving a second theatrical release ... "does that mean the sing-along version was in theaters twice? Or does it mean the non-sing-along version was the first in theaters; and the sing-along version is the "second time in theaters"? Clarify for readers.
- b) "This version was subsequently released on Netflix." Tell the reader which versions were on Netflix: Only non-sing-along? or only sing-along? or both, separately?
- The earwig CopyVio tool shows yellow warnings for two sources:
- Examining the "comparison" output of the tool shows they are false positives, so no issues there.
- Source title duplicated quote marks: "'KPop Demon Hunters Captures Spirit Of Our Fandom'" probably caused by providing quotes in the "title" field of a "cite" template.
- Slang? original songs by several talents,... The word "talent" to mean a person may be jargon used within the entertainment industry; for a general purpose encyclopedia, consider a plainer word such as "musicians".
- Clarify/explain: In the demon world, Gwi-Ma grows enraged at his minions' failures. Five demons, led by former human Jinu, form a boy band called the Saja Boys to steal Huntr/x's fans and weaken the Honmoon, in exchange for Gwi-Ma erasing Jinu's human memories. Readers will want to know why the memories were erased: Did Jinu want them erased? If so: why? Or did someone else want them erased?
- English-centric? In the "Voice cast" section, only the English-language actors are listed, correct? I presume that the movie also had voice actors in other languages? If some sort of convention exists in WP for handling that situation, make sure this article follows it. In other words, we don't want to make the article English-centric; so if the WP convention is that other languages should be mentioned - perhaps only in a footnote - that should be followed.
- The film's original language is English so even though Netflix dubs most of their films/shows, my understanding is that you just list the original language cast (which in this case is English). Sariel Xilo (talk) 05:29, 10 November 2025 (UTC)
- Sariel Xilo is pretty much correct that typical WP conventions wouldn't necessitate dub casts being listed in this sort of situation. — Jamie Eilat (talk) 05:44, 10 November 2025 (UTC)
- Image use in top InfoBox: I looked at the free-to-use justification for the copyrighted image, and it looks okay. Image is in WP, not Commons, which is correct.
- Clarify for readers: ... release was "just enough to satisfy the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences' highly specific eligibility requirements" Many readers will not know that the Academy is related to the Oscar awards, so consider changing the sentence to include the word "Oscars". No need to quote Billboard ... just use them as a source.
- Major typo in cite #89 Bulleted list Vlessing, Etan (August 12, 2025). "'KPop Demon Hunters' to Hit Theaters as Sing-Along Event". The Hollywood Reporter. Archived from the original on August...
- Capitalization of source titles not uniform: some source title use title case ("KPop Demon Hunters Makes History on .."), other titles use sentence case: ("'KPop Demon Hunters' is trending this ...") Should use one or the other, especially for FA. Not sure if required for GA. The capitalization used by the source for its own title can be ignored.
- Quotes not needed for short noun phrases: MOS:QUOTE says "... excessive use of them [quotes] is incompatible with an encyclopedic writing style ..." Some portions of the article use quotes like this: It was conceived by Kang who wanted to make a film "set in Korean culture"; she "delved into mythology and demonology for something that could be visually unique" compared to "mainstream media". She also called the film her "love letter to K-pop" and her "Korean roots" I don't think MOS:QUOTE has a clear guideline on this, but in the sentences above, some of the quotes are short noun phrases such as:
- Short quotes (eliminate quote marks): "set in Korean culture", "Korean roots", "mainstream media"
- Longer quotes (leave alone): "delved into mythology and demonology ..", "love letter to K-pop"
- For the short noun phrases, consider eliminating the quote marks entirely and perhaps slightly changing the words (paraphrasing). If a famous person says "I like cars" the WP article about the person can say "This person likes cars" without quoting them. Eg.. "mainstream media" is a noun with no alternative wording, so quote marks are not needed. etc.
- Word as a word: MOS:WORDSASWORDS says "Use italics when writing about words as words, ... ". Therefore the three words here should probably be italics: The name "Huntr/x" portmanteaus "hunter" with the Latin feminine agent noun suffix -trix, to evoke huntresses. should probably be The name Huntr/x portmanteaus hunter with the Latin feminine agent noun suffix -trix, to evoke huntresses.
- Clarify: ... with Yoohyun Jung of The Boston Globe hinting to the same publication... Two things: (1) Is "hinting" the best word here? Or was it a plain & clear statement? (2) if Jung works for the Globe, why is Jung being interviewed by the Globe? Is Jung Korean, with a unique insight into the culture? If so, tell the readers that (provided sources support it).
- Consent of persons in photo: the image https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KPop_Demon_Hunters#/media/File:KPop_Demon_Hunters_panel_at_GalaxyCon_St.Louis_-_06.jpg does not have a statement of subjects giving consent. See Commons policy at https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Photographs_of_identifiable_people, and see Commons Consent template at https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:Consent . A consent statement is included in this image https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:KPDH_cosplay_at_a_singalong_screening_in_Hamburg.jpg . Personally, I do not see this as an obstacle to GA status, because it is clear from the GalaxyCon_St.Louis photo that the subjects are in a very public place and are implicitly giving consent. I'm only mentioning it here because I'm not familiar with the nuances of image consent. No action required by nominator.
- I have reviewed the "free to use" documentation for all images, and they all appear to be okay.
- Better wording: ... present in the film, writing on how "[t]he solidarity ... consider simplifying to ... present in the film, writing "[t]he solidarity ...
- This source may be missing a "lang=ko" field: Yu, Ji-hee (June 20, 2025). "이병헌, 메인 빌런으로 변신...애니 '케이팝 데몬 헌터스' 더빙 참여" [Lee Byung-hun Transforms into the Main Villain ... Participates in Dubbing for the Animation 'KPop Demon Hunters']
- Also this source: iChart [@instiz_ichart] (August 10, 2025). "2025/8/11 10:30 (KST) [Link] iChart 퍼펙트 올킬(Perfect All Kill)을 축하해요! (9개 차트 올킬, iChart 주간/실시간 1위) 🎶Huntr/x - Golden (656 Times) [Image]" (Tweet) – via Twitter.
- Article still seems to be relying too much on quotes, e.g.
- Jinu is the only Saja Boy who "has a real name" while "the rest of the band members have names that are more descriptive of K-pop archetypes"
- ... alone with their dream "literally and physically in tatters".
- others
- They could be written entirely in the encyclopedia's voice, without any quotes. Quotes should only be used when the speaker said something in a very unique or poetic manner, and the flavor would be lost if re-written in the encyclopedia's voice. Here is an example of a proper use of a quote:
- ... with Kang noting that "[y]ou can get pretty violent if you put a lot of glitter on"
- Source spot checks:
- [99] article: KPop Demon Hunters received wide acclaim from both critics and audiences - source is Carter, Justin (August 2, 2025). "'KPop Demon Hunters' and 'Expedition 33' Are Having a Moment". Gizmodo. Source says both were released earlier this year to fairly glowing reviews (if not outright critical acclaim) and performed very well commercially. - Source does not say "was critical acclaimed" it qualifies it with "if not". This source is a very light article, not a film review. A better source would be a review from a notable film critic.
- [26] Article says Maggie Kang first pitched the idea that eventually became KPop Demon Hunters to Aron Warner in 2018, while he was working on the production of Wish Dragon (2021) for Sony Pictures Animation. Source is Kim, Regina (July 21, 2025). "'KPop Demon Hunters' Took 7 Years to Make but a Lifetime of Experience". Source supports the article.
- I have reviewed the content of several other sources, and they accurately support the associated material.
- I looked at all source publishers: and I found no blogs or inherently unreliable sources (there is one Twitter post, but that is from the movie director, and is a primary source of her statements).
- Source Myriam (July 3, 2025). "Glossaire Complet des Termes Et Mythologies Coréennes de « Kpop Demon Hunters » Expliqué"... Is in French? The source should have a "lang=" field.
- Done for now, let me know when you've considered all of the above. Noleander (talk) 00:41, 10 November 2025 (UTC)
Replies
- I realize that your review is still in progress, but I've made some edits to address the points you've raised in your review so far:
- I've replaced the previous image in the music section with a different one of the same subject; the new image lacks the copyright issues that the former did.
- With citation bundling, my personal rule of thumb is that 2–3 citations next to each other is alright, but 4 or more together warrants bundling. I've now made that consistent throughout the article.
- I've removed the period from the image caption referenced.
- I've removed the name of the university from the sentence & prefaced their names with “Academics”
- Jurnal Riset Rumpun Ilmu Bahasa is peer reviewed, by the looks of things: . Additionally, though Prastiwi is an undergrad, the other author, Adni, is a professor
- I've tried rephrasing/rearranging the sentences for more clarity; the sing-along version was released theatrically, then the sing-along was released on Netflix, then the sing-along was re-released theatrically. — Jamie Eilat (talk) 01:58, 10 November 2025 (UTC)
- The original photo was probably fine since the commons discussion is leaning towards keep but the new photo is of Ejae doing promotion for the film so either should do. Sariel Xilo (talk) 05:29, 10 November 2025 (UTC)
- Further updates: fixed duplicated quotes in the specified citation, switched out "talents" in lead for "musicians", rephrased sentence to refer to the Oscars & to not be a direct quotation, fixed the formatting issue with cite #89, and adjusted the citation titles to be in title case (if I've missed any, please point them out). — Jamie Eilat (talk) 05:43, 10 November 2025 (UTC)
- @Jamie Eilat One source title that is not yet title case is: "KPop Demon Hunters 2 aims for 2029 release on Netflix". Noleander (talk) 14:42, 10 November 2025 (UTC)
- Just fixed it; thank you for pointing out one that I missed. I also fixed the case of some others that were missed. — Jamie Eilat (talk) 14:45, 10 November 2025 (UTC)

- For the plot summary, I changed "in exchange for Gwi-Ma erasing Jinu's human memories" to "in exchange for Gwi-Ma promising to Jinu to erase his painful human memories", in order to clarify 1) that Jinu is the one who wants his own memory erased, 2) the reason Jinu wants the memories of his human life erased is because he finds them emotionally painful (the reasons why the memories would be emotionally painful to him are already clarified in the later parts of the plot summary), and 3) that Gwi-Ma merely promises to erase his memories, without immediately following through. — Jamie Eilat (talk) 05:43, 10 November 2025 (UTC)
- I realize that your review is still in progress, but I've made some edits to address the points you've raised in your review so far:
- Re: "Quotes not needed for short noun phrases" - I addressed the ones you specifically highlighted & few in the development section and then @Jamie Eilat did a pass through the rest of the article. Are there any left that you think still need to be rephrased? Thanks! Sariel Xilo (talk) 16:01, 10 November 2025 (UTC)
- I've made sure words being used as words are italicized, and I've changed the phrasing of "with Yoohyun Jung of The Boston Globe hinting to the same publication" to instead be "with Yoohyun Jung of The Boston Globe suggesting"; I'm not sure why it was phrased so complicatedly in the first place, since it's straightforwardly just quoting Jung writing for The Boston Globe. — Jamie Eilat (talk) 16:18, 10 November 2025 (UTC)
- Added lang=ko param to cites where needed — Jamie Eilat (talk) 19:48, 10 November 2025 (UTC)
- @Noleander: Added "lang=fr" param to the cite. As for the case of "critical acclaim", the other two citations attached to the statement, [98] from NPR and [100] from Teen Vogue seem more supportive of the article's phrasing, with NPR writing that "The movie 'KPop Demon Hunters' has not only received critical acclaim...", and with Teen Vogue writing that the movie is "achieving critical acclaim". If these sources are still considered insufficient to support the article phrasing, then the use of "acclaim" in the article can perhaps be softened to "positive reception" instead, or removed. — Jamie Eilat (talk) 18:03, 11 November 2025 (UTC)
- Keeping "acclaim" in the article is okay, but consider removing the Gizmodo cite, since it is not a review itself: just lightly summarizing _other_ reviews. Noleander (talk) 18:51, 11 November 2025 (UTC)
- Removed. — Jamie Eilat (talk) 19:18, 11 November 2025 (UTC)
