Business As Usual

Where is the album Business As Usual, which contained their hit Who Can It Be Now? 67.188.172.165 21:53, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

... which was by Men At Work, not Men Without Hats. I'm gonna edit out the reference to "Who Can It Be Now" in the "Videos" section to prevent further confusion.

Yes, that was by Men at Work. Men at Work are an entirely different band to Men Without Hats and do not even come from the same country (Men Without Hats are Canadian, Men At Work are Australian). Vorbee (talk) 15:19, 2 October 2019 (UTC)

"Where Do the Boys Go?"

The article mentions "The Safety Dance" and "Pop Goes The World", so at least they're not being called a "one-hit wonder" as many websites often do, but am I the only one who remembers "Where Do the Boys Go?"? The video was a hit on MuchMusic when I was a kid. I'm not adding it to the article just yet because I don't know which album it came from and I'm not entirely sure how to rephrase the sentence which mentions their hits... also because I'd like someone else to confirm that this song was actually a hit and that I'm not completely insane. - Ugliness Man 07:01, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

It was a minor hit in terms of airplay and videoplay, yes. I don't think it actually charted very high or sold well, though. It was on "Folk of the 80's Part III". wikipediatrix 13:33, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
According to the Joel Whitburn's most recent Book of Billboard Top 40 Hits, only two songs by Men Without Hats - "The Safety Dance" (#3) and "Pop Goes the World" (#20) - ever hit the Billboard Hot 100 Doc Strange (talk) 18:32, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia plagiarism

The text on this page is exactly the same as the text at http://www.80smusiclyrics.com/artists/menwithouthats.htm , although I don't know which came first... Andy Johnston 12:14, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

I looked at a couple of other entries on that web site, and they all look to be copies of the lede section of the respective Wikipedia article. I'd say they're not attributing their sources properly. Ciotog 18:46, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, it's hard to tell which came first.. the text has been in this article for so long that it's hard to isolate. I'm not going to worry about it, but it definitely needs to be rewritten. The History section is not a proper tone at all. --Spike Wilbury talk 19:02, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

History

I removed this huge, unsourced and intractable braindump from the history section. It's massive and needs to be trimmed down and (above all) sourced. --Tony Sidaway 15:44, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Holy man. Up until reading this article, I always thought this was a British rock band.--174.95.66.253 (talk) 17:39, 21 May 2010 (UTC)

New Album

New Album - Hey if you go to their website they released a new album. Has it gotten any play what so ever? At any rate i think it should be mentioned. —Preceding unsigned comment added by SpencerVR (talkcontribs) 20:10, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

Their most recent album No Hats Beyond This Point was released in 2003. Nothing charted. Their website just hasn't been updated since.

Pop Culture References

Since we've seen them mentioned on TV shows "Scrubs" and "Futurama" (Turk answering Carla with the chorus about his theoretical son taking up dance class while his friends play football and Fry chatting about Safety Dance with the defrosted 80s yuppie respectively) along with other references elsewhere, maybe a short section on mentions would be good?

Short clips of the two references mentioned above: Futurama: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5FqKCO-oKo Scrubs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-bIhCBSrzU&feature=related

-There is one in Simpsons too. Homer is at the powerplant and after "Safety Dance" play, the radio man says that

"This was Safety Dance by Men Without Hat"

the co host

"Guess now they are Men Without Job"

Past members

The elongated list of past members seems to be a joke in the "Bob Holness played the saxophone on Baker Street" vein. I find it hard to believe that Mark Arm (of Mudhoney), Sean Kinney (of Alice in Chains) and Debra Messing (of crap TV Will & Grace) were in this band, and there are no mentions of them on the MWH website. 77.99.63.32 (talk) 19:31, 2 January 2014 (UTC)

I'm surprised they didn't list Adjeur Neighmere. --66.41.154.0 (talk) 06:26, 19 January 2014 (UTC)

Self-sourced nickname

@Rhythmofyouth: No, actually you really can't invent a nickname for a musical artist (which you admitted on your talk page was a nickname you invented), add it to Wikipedia, and then keep on putting it back every time you're told that it's unsourced. This is an encyclopedia, not a fan page. Lwarrenwiki (talk) 18:24, 8 August 2016 (UTC) rev. for clarity 18:47, 12 September 2016 (UTC)

  • Also, the information you changed regarding the birthplace of the Doroschuk brothers was not supported by the source you cited in your edit comment. At menwithouthats.com/misc.html, an unidentified source wrote that all three brothers were born in Urbana. In the published interview that's cited in this article, Ivan stated that all three brothers were born in Champaign. Even if your information is accurate, and even if you have a personal source for that information, you still need to cite a published source per WP:THIRDPARTY. Sources

@Heepman1997: You may happen to know stuff, but knowing stuff doesn't count as reliable sourcing on Wikipedia. Lwarrenwiki (talk) 14:45, 26 December 2016 (UTC)

Touring members

@Heepman1997: I think your long list of touring members has reached the point of being based on your original research, rather than a third-party source that would establish that this information is anything more than trivia and clutter. It's now difficult or impossible to distinguish actual members from the many sidemen or fill-ins who played a few gigs with MWH (or were guest musicians on recordings), and who probably would never even claim that they were members of MWH. So who was the female vocalist?

So many actresses have been mentioned that played the female vocalists onscreen. But who actually sang the female vocals (in their hit songs)? Thank you, 2600:1700:B9C0:DCA0:9931:24A6:DCDD:56B9 (talk) 03:20, 12 December 2022 (UTC)ES
