Talk:Newcastle Emlyn

Transport

There is much that is wrong with the Transport section, particularly the first paragraph concerning railways. The Teifi Valley Railway was nothing to do with the GWR: it is a modern narrow-gauge line. The Carmarthen and Cardigan Railway (C&CR), always in financial difficulties, opened in stages and finally reached Llandyssil in June 1864 - it never reached either Cardigan or Newcastle Emlyn. It was bought by the GWR in 1881, which extended the line to Newcastle Emlyn, this portion opening in July 1895. See MacDermot, E.T. (1931). History of the Great Western Railway, vol. II: 1863–1921.
