According to Bill Inmon, an operational data store (ODS) is a subject-oriented, integrated, volatile, current-valued, detailed-only collection of data in support of an organization's need for up-to-the-second, operational, integrated, collective information.

This is a really terrible way of saying "the most important data belonging to a business". David Wilson 14:48, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

This article is in dire need of an implementation example. I've read a couple articles and still can't think of an application where you needed integrated data that couldn't wait for a daily EDW update.--Madmonky (talk) 13:42, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
