Greater Idaho
Nothing to say about Greater Idaho? 2A02:908:C38:D3A0:0:0:0:38EC (talk) 08:18, 19 May 2023 (UTC)
- This is the Oregon page. IDK how to read (talk) 23:51, 29 December 2024 (UTC)
Missing section
Hey, there isn't a transportation section at all. Could somebody fix this? I'm not too great at citing or anything, as I've only ever done one edit, and that was changing a single word. Maybe this Wikipedia article (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rail_transportation_in_Oregon) can be used for the sub-section about the railways of Oregon?TheFluffyProto (talk) 18:30, 28 January 2024 (UTC)
- Noted, let me read these two articles. Cheers, ✏️ C809 ⌨️ (let's chat) 05:26, 3 March 2025 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, there are circumstances that needed souring to confirm this. ParticularEvent318 (talk) 20:25, 19 March 2025 (UTC)

Medias&Oregon
I am thinking about writing out a little something because I watch a lot of media and read a lot as well and quite a few of my favorites take place in Oregon(real cities and fictional ones). Arr-u-r-a-pirate (talk) 11:43, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
Pronunciation
I've lived in this state my whole life, and I don't think very many people from here pronounce the state's name how this article has it. People do use the /-ɡɑn/ if they're not from here and don't live here, but the first vowel is definitely /ɔ/, not /ɒ/ (that's not even a sound in our dialect), and the typical pronunciation I've heard my whole life I can best approximate as /ˈɔrəˌɡɪn/ or /ˈɔrɨˌɡɪn/. Maybe there's a scholarly article or two floating around out there where someone did research on this. Thanks guys! Violent snake83 (talk) 11:23, 3 May 2025 (UTC)
- Also from Oregon here; I have anyways pronounced it as /ˈɔrɡɪn/, as well as everybody I know here. Maybe it's just a regional thing (I'm from Salem for reference)? I have no idea how common this is, though. Dotrpk (talk) 21:52, 20 July 2025 (UTC)
- I don't think ɔ is correct, because that vowel is not typically heard in the U.S., and very rarely in Oregon (see Cot-caught merger). Note that R after a vowel changes the sound of the vowel, so this is not just ɒ alone but ɒr. If the first syllable of "Oregon" rhymes with "moral" to you, then we have a match. I'm not a linguist, but see if this helps. --Esprqii (talk) 22:20, 21 July 2025 (UTC)
- Well, there is no ɒ sound in this dialect, even before r, but I looked it up and according to the Wiktionary the General American English transcription of the vowel in question is actually /o/, according to this page at least. That's the vowel in "horror," etc. I would note that ɔ is pretty common in the Northeast too, but that's neither here nor there I suppose. Violent snake83 (talk) 23:12, 21 July 2025 (UTC)
- I still want to say it should be how I said originally but I guess this would be a good time to consult a linguist or something, lol. Violent snake83 (talk) 23:13, 21 July 2025 (UTC)
- Wikipedia pronunciation guides are supposed to be phonemic, that is represented by somewhat standardized IPA symbols that may or may not match the true pronunciation of the corresponding symbols. For example, you would transcribe all r-ending sounds with an r even though many accents don't pronounce that the r as an alveolar trill, if at all. Speakers of non-rhotic accents would just interpret it without the r, and speakers of rhotic accents would interpret it as ɹ. In this case, I believe ɔ would be the correct phoneme (force~north vowel), even if it isn't pronounced like that specific symbol. Dotrpk (talk) 22:50, 28 July 2025 (UTC)

Not done. This had no business being in the article in the first place, so I have removed it. –Deacon Vorbis (carbon • videos) 18:36, 18 February 2026 (UTC)
