Holding some research on the subject here:
- May have played at Stanford per this reference.
- possible obituary if it's the same guy. Pay to view, NYT--anyone have access?
- possible classmate of Herbert Hoover at Stanford.
- Photo of team and article about season at Stanford.
This all hinges on one item: if coach Paul Downing of Oregon is the same person as Paul M. Downing who played at Stanford, there's much more to the article. The time lines match, but I don't think that's enough to declare them the same person at this point.--Paul McDonald (talk) 21:44, 27 February 2011 (UTC)
