Milestones
The table in the Milestones section show R version with format x.y, e.g. R 3.6. However, except for some of the historical releases, the formal version format is x.y.z, e.g. R 3.6.0. The dates associated with each entry appears to point to when the x.y.0 release was done. Should the 'Release' version be updated to use x.y.0 format?

Maintenance Template - "too technical"
In response to this article's maintenance template, I have improved the lead section by making it understandable to non-experts, without removing any technical details. Is it appropriate to remove the maintenance template at this point? Pac Veten (talk) 18:14, 13 June 2025 (UTC)
- Sounds fine to me, but I didn't post that "too technical" flag. I suggest waiting 24 hours to give whoever set that flag to respond. If no reply by 24 hours from now, it should be appropriate to remove it. DavidMCEddy (talk) 18:26, 13 June 2025 (UTC)
This article sounds like an advertisement for the tidyverse package…
I think apart from a link in the see also all references to todyverse should be removed. Even though it's useful and popular R goes far beyond a single package. The article should be about how it compares to other languages/tools used for data visualisation, not to promote some package. 2A02:3035:B63:25FC:20BF:320B:71D7:6A85 (talk) 11:20, 12 October 2025 (UTC)
- agreed. The intro mention about being popular is likely fine seems it is true (ggplot2 is the most downloaded package of all time), but no need to show how to install and load the tidyverse. Venpopov (talk) 23:52, 2 March 2026 (UTC)
- Hadley Wickham, the primary creator of the tidyverse, has received multiple awards for his contributions to R. I think it's appropriate to mention the tidyverse, though it would be good to have citation(s) explaining why. However, I do not feel I can spare the time from other priorities to add such citations. DavidMCEddy (talk) 22:12, 3 March 2026 (UTC)
- I don't disagree - and tidyverse is already prominently mentioned in the second paragraph of the lead! And that's a good highlight. But spending so much space explaining how to install it and load it in a general article about R seems like an overkill. I also checked a bunch of other programing language wikis and none of those I checked go into instructions about installing packages and 3-rd party libraries, which are widely available on the internet anyway. Venpopov (talk) 22:21, 3 March 2026 (UTC)
- (edit conflict)@Venpopov: It is one of the most downloaded R packages, so it isn't that silly to include it. I mainly reverted because you removed all the information on how to install a package, which is an essential bit of information for this article. Definitely open to changing it to a different package though - Matrix? The only problem with that is that it can be a pain to install on Macs. SmartSE (talk) 22:14, 3 March 2026 (UTC)
- I won't object too hard, I have no horse in the game. Just note, as I replied to DavidMCEddy, that tidyverse is already prominently listed in the lede (2nd paragraph) and that other popular programming language articles on wikipedia (e.g. python and javascript) don't include detailed instructions about how to install thrid-party libraries (which is part of any introductory R tutorial on the internet, so to me at least seems misplaced in a generalist wiki article.
- And yeah, matrix is often a pain to install so that's a different can of worms. Venpopov (talk) 22:27, 3 March 2026 (UTC)

Mobile availability
There are multiple scholar sources showing that; no need for them to be reputably peer-reviewed since that's like citing that the sky is blue. UfzO (talk) 20:21, 12 December 2025 (UTC)

- WP:BLUESKY is an essay not a policy or guideline. There's also the equivalent WP:You do need to cite that the sky is blue where you have to be critical on what you think is obvious, it may not be for the reader. – The Grid (talk) 04:22, 3 January 2026 (UTC)
