Hi there, I'll review this article. I want to give it a good shake, so probably won't have full review up for a day or so. Dizzycheekchewer (talk) 18:29, 6 June 2026 (UTC)
- Okay, so first: excellent job on building out this article. There's a ton of detail and citations and everything, so serious props. It's in an solid place overall, but there are a couple areas where it needs some GA attention. Since it's such a big article, I'm going to put it on hold for a week so you can address those areas.
- Well-written
- It follows the MOS: Lead, MOS: Layout and MOS: Words to Watch properly. The second-to-last paragraph in the lead is a little long. I'd recommend splitting into two or condensing a bit.
- I have condensed the second to last paragraph. -JJonahJackalope (talk) 20:22, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
- It is generally written well, but sometimes the sentences stray away from being concise and/or easily comprehensible. I definitely understand the desire to get across everything detail without missing anything or putting too much spin one way or another (my own wikistyle). But it takes away from the reading/understanding experience. It's not terrible by any means, but I would take a passthrough and see where you can enact some concision:
- Examples: "These initial protests in Greensboro sparked the larger sit-in movement that saw activists in many cities throughout the American South employ similar nonviolent practices to integrate segregated spaces, such as lunch counters, stores, and public facilities."
- "By the end of 1960, thanks in large part to the CCCV's efforts, 57 percent of the eligible black citizens of Savannah were registered to vote, a higher percentage than among the city's white population.
- "Modeled after the Highlander Folk School in Tennessee, the Dorchester Academy was one of a number of "Citizenship Schools" established throughout the Southern United States with the goal of training civil rights activists and giving African American adults lessons in civics that would help them to navigate the obstacles they faced in exercising their political rights."
- I have attempted to make several of these sentences more concise, though I couldn't find an effective way to do so with the last sentence here. -JJonahJackalope (talk) 20:22, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
- Verifiable with NOR, no copyvio, etc.
- I checked through the various Tuck sources and found that the page numbers matched up with the information there. I also spotchecked the Gottlieb 1991, Elmore 2020, GHS 2017, and Russell 2012. No issues there. Also the sourcing itself is good, largely relying on high quality, reliable secondary sources (university press books, journal articles).
- No evidence of OR, claims hew close to the sourcing while not exhibiting any copyvio issues.
- Balance
- This is the main area where I think it needs some cutting. There is a lot of detail in the background section where it becomes a bit unfocused and distracting. Much of it is good and could fit nicely in an overview of the CRM in Savannah on a longer time horizon, but if the article is about 1960-1963, it doesn't do much use to have all the detail about the NAACP in the 30s or about the white primary SC case or about Ralph Mark Gilbert (though he looms large in the overall movement, he had nothing to do with the SPM as laid out in the article). The additional names and dates confuse what's already a pretty complicated picture in the 3 years of protests with changing casts of characters, etc.
- I would recommend cutting down to maybe 4 or 5 paragraphs, including only the strictly relevant details and/or condensing to individual sentences.
- I have made some significant edits to the Background section in an attempt to consolidate it, reducing the paragraph count to 5. -JJonahJackalope (talk) 16:34, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
- Neutral
- No significant issues with NPOV. Non-neutral tinged phrases are properly sourced and/or attributed.
- Stable
- No edit warring or major disagreements about content.
- Illustrated
- There definitely are photos that illustrate the article, but I find that they're a little off of the time period. Young wasn't really a huge figure comparatively in Savannah at the time, but his picture is here (I get he was there and is mentioned in the text). The MLK picture also makes sense, though the caption there very slightly implies the picture is of his New Years address in Savannah, rather than a separate speech in NY. None of that is bad per se, but I tried to look for pictures that would apply. Unfortunately the pickings are not good, but I found a couple possible options ( ). Nothing for GA depends on it of course, but it's there if you want it. Dizzycheekchewer (talk) 04:30, 9 June 2026 (UTC)
- Hi @JJonahJackalope, I just wanted to flag this GA review for you. The 7 day hold has passed and I haven't seen any activity. I'll give it another couple days, but then will move it to a GA fail due to the aforementioned concerns. Dizzycheekchewer (talk) 05:17, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
- @Dizzycheekchewer:, thank you for initiating this review and apologies for the late reply. I have addressed some of the points you raised and will tackle the topic of Balance soon. I agree that the scope can be made more clear and I may create a page for the CRM in Savannah as a whole. -JJonahJackalope (talk) 20:22, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
- @JJonahJackalope Sounds good to me—let me know when you're ready for another pass. If you do think it'll take longer than a week or you're not sure if you have the time for it, I'm happy to fail now and pledge to re-review when you have the chance. But also happy to keep it open for another week or so. Let me know what you think. Dizzycheekchewer (talk) 03:41, 18 June 2026 (UTC)

- Looks good to me, much better balance there. I'll mark it as good to go. Nice job! Dizzycheekchewer (talk) 21:43, 19 June 2026 (UTC)
