Addressing "Primary sources" hatnote
Article review by User:Boynamedsue flagged excessive primary sources. Highest used sources are institutional yearbooks and State department annual reports; e.g. MacLatchy, Josephine, ed. (1930) and Bowsher, E. L. (1939), both believed to be summaries, not Original Research. Requesting a few examples...TomStonehunter (talk) 14:46, 21 May 2026 (UTC)
- State department reports are by definition primary sources. Some of the "institutional yearbooks" are not independent of the subject, and so are primary sources. The hatnote say it relies excessively on primary sources, not that it relies exclusively on them. However, it is also very problematic that the sources nearly all date back 80-90 years. When we are dealing with sources this ancient, what is primary and what is secondary becomes less clear. Overall, this is a piece of research rather than a summary of sources.Boynamedsue (talk) 16:08, 23 May 2026 (UTC)
- A couple years back, it was suggested I use a color-coded reference screener (green-yellow-red) to validate sources. It's somewhere in my user settings (cannot find it now); can't give its name. App shows the aforementioned refs as green. Shows article having one orange ref, no yellows or reds, out of 98 total. Apparently, the Wiki-app needs fixed.TomStonehunter (talk) 14:59, 25 May 2026 (UTC)
