I don't think that is necessary a good thing. To me Wikipedia should be more and different from company's self-generated statements. Though, the current description seems okay, and I don't find anything very promotional in it. Samoojas (talk) 16:36, 20 April 2011 (UTC)

I'm not sure, and I work here! :-) I'll look into it, but I suspect it should be something like "It is the only major research institute in the U.S. without direct university support or association". zowie 16:46, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

I am not sure who added this statement, but we are a not-for-profit research and development organization. We are independent and not tied to a university; however, I believe there are a few other R&D organizations in the U.S. who are also not directly associated with an university. I am a Southwest Research Institute employee who is requesting edits to the Southwest Research Institute Wikipedia page. We recently learned that we needed to disclose our affiliation as employees when requesting edits to be compliant with Wikipedia’s conflict of interest (COI) policy.

The top of the page references a need for more citations. I suggest adding four citations to the four existing claims in the paragraph below:
