A reader suggested ticket:2018111710003796 that his mother should be added to the article. I note that the early life section mentions his father but not his mother. The article about his father James William Colbert Jr. does mention his mother, Lorna Elizabeth Tuck, along with the source, so it should be easy to incorporate.S Philbrick(Talk) 13:21, 18 November 2018 (UTC)

In his conservation with Sandra Bullock yesterday, Colbert started talking a bit in German, thereby referring to his mother who "spoke German at home". I don't fully understand why, as she does not seem to be a first-generation migrant. Or did I misunderstand that in the text? Colbert is unstoppable, but at 160K the article is waaaay overlarge per Wikipedia:Article size, namely

> 100 kB Almost certainly should be divided

This is especially egregious considering Stephen Colbert (character) also exists, another 78K.

Being as W'pedia isn't an appropriate space for details of primary interest to fans, there's a simple heuristic: either

• the detailed information is of so much interest to a general audience that it exists somewhere else, which can be linked to and won't be clogging up the article

OR

• the information is of little enough interest that it exists nowhere else, and therefore shouldn't be clogging up the article.

Writing such as this would be fine in a blog, or as a published essay, but Wikipedia is neither a blog nor a magazine. At very least, consideration must be given as to what can be removed (as redundant with Stephen Colbert (character), perhaps) because I cannot figure out what else could be a stand-alone article. Seeing as so many hands have contributed, but have not seen fit to actually edit, it's perhaps overdue to remove entirely unsourced passages, e.g. the Noblet/Jellineck gag. And if an article about a subtopic already thrives (e.g. The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Stephen Colbert presidential campaign, 2008) there's no need for any depth and in fact it'd likely be better as a See also.

According to the town's tax records Colbert and his wife haven't live in Montclair for 11 years (Property was sold on 09/02/08). I would like to change this information but the only reference that I have would invade the privacy of the new owner and I can't seem to find where Colbert and his wife live now. YborCityJohn, the source you discuss might -- at best -- demonstrate that he sold a particular property in Montclair, not that he no longer lives there; surely it's possible that he bought a different house in Montclair. The solution to the "problem" you raise is to find a more current source showing where he relocated to. This source, from way back in September 2019, says that "The host of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and a resident of Montclair, Colbert regularly fronts the winter fundraiser as well as parts of the spring film festival.", so it appears that he still does live there, though he could have moved in the intervening period.

I'm also baffled by this edit, in which you removed Colbert from List of people from Montclair, New Jersey, as there is no requirement that the individuals included on such lists be current residents. Alansohn (talk) 16:17, 30 October 2019 (UTC)

Alansohn According to both a State of New Jersey property tax database and the Monmouth County Tax Collector who maintains a repository database of property tax information for every municipality in every county in the State of New Jersey none of the cities in the those databases list Stephen and Evelyn Colbert as owning any property in the State of New Jersey, now granted he could have gone the way that Howard Stern did, Stern's Manhattan condo in New York City, his two vacation homes in Southampton on Long Island and in West Palm Beach, Florida are all listed under a corporation name headed by a Trustee, Stern's name appears nowhere in the tax records, same with Jerry Seinfeld his home also in Manhattan and his garage on West 83rd Street are all owned by a corporation which lists his sister Carolyn Liebling as a trustee or as an officer of each of the corporations. It is also possible that Colbert and his wife either moved to the city or at least to Long Island or Westchester County to get away from the Commuter and City taxes that New York State and New York City charge. As far as deleting Colbert's name from the list of Notable People from Montclair, I realize now that was a mistake... I went to change it back but noticed you already did. YborCityJohn, absence of evidence may not be evidence of absence. As you already pointed out, the Colberts may own a property in Montclair under a corporate name or trustee; there's no way to know for sure based on property databases. Given how accessible these databases are and how many stalkers are out there, I'm more surprised when I discover a well-known person who does have their name on a property.The sources seem to still place Colbert in Montclair, though I can't tell you the address. Alansohn No worries about revealing the location... I lived in neighboring West Orange for 42 years and worked in Montclair, Upper Montclair and Glen Ridge and I know exactly where their house is, My mother-in-law and father-in-law lived down the street from the Colberts. I would like to edit all the references to "Catholic" and change them to "Roman Catholic".

Roman Catholics are not the only Catholics. Anglicans and Anglo-Catholics also consider themselves to be Catholic, and are Catholic. When you mean Roman Catholic, it's best to say so.

the final reference is already correct: "Colbert is a practicing Roman Catholic and used to teach Sunday school"

The first sentence of the second paragraph under Personal Life reads, "Colbert has been married to Evelyn "Evie" McGee-Colbert since 1993." I would like to add their anniversary so that it reads, "Colbert has been married to Evelyn "Evie" McGee-Colbert since October 28, 1993."

She mentioned their anniversary in the February 14, 2021 airing of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. It is at 1:56 in the video clip.

I have seen on the ...tube that Colbert threw out Megan Markle from his show. To me this looked faked with the help of AI. Maybe this should be mentioned? change "He is also in favor of abolishing the U.S. Senate." to "He has made a humorous quip in favor of abolishing the U.S. Senate.".

If you follow the existing citation and read the text therein (not just the title) you will see that the original quote was from an interview with Elizabeth Warren regarding doing away with senate filibuster rules. In response Colbert quipped that we should abolish the senate. • "bowed to" in scare quotes indicate the non-NPOV of this statement. Quoting NYT on the matter is probably problematic
• The "No.1" reference is laughable and applies only to network television. They ignore Gutfeld's viewership because he is on cable, but he consistently outperformed Colbert's Late Show.
• Colbert's viewership had an average age of 68. This is significant, particularly as it relates to the ability of advertisers to make money support the show.
