Life
His father was Thomas Black Adamson (8 September 1831 - 5 April 1877), a shipbuilder from Dundee.
His mother was Ann Smith (4 February 1829 - 12 December 1921) from Marykirk in Aberdeenshire.
Thomas Black Adamson and Ann Smith married on 26 January 1858 in Pitgarvie near Marykirk.
Thomas Adamson was born on 19 January 1859 in Alloa.
He became a clerk for a colour manufacturer and became a painter.
He joined the army and fought in the Boer War. He was a captain in the 3rd Battalion of the Railway Pioneer Regiment, which tried to protect the South Afrian railways in the war.
He emigrated to Canada in 1910, first moving to Vancouver and then to Edmonton in 1914. He later retired to Victoria in British Columbia.

Art
His painting of President Paul Kruger of Transvaal together with General Piet Joubert and General Nicolaas Smit was exhibited by a museum in Pretoria in 1939.
Death
He died on 20 June 1946 in Victoria, British Columbia in Canada.
