He married Jane Isabella Walker in Edinburgh in 1895.

He died on 28 October 1939 at Sydenham Railway Station of natural causes. He had suffered from a heart condition for many years. His usual address was 21 Holyoake Terrace in Sevenoaks, Kent. His estate was worth £767, 10 shillings and 4 pence.^[5]
