I’m learning how to edit and work on Wikipedia because I am interested in creating biographies of Australian performing artists of the 1980s. My other interests include contemporary visual art, fine art printmaking and artist books, and I am a visual artist. I have completed a short, helpful course on using Wikipedia - https://learn.wiki/courses/course-v1:JamesGaunt+000+2024/about

I am the executor of the estate of one of these performers - Mitchell Faircloth. I believe that Faircloth’s contribution to the performing arts in Melbourne, Vic, was notable. A collection of his artefacts (costumes, photographs, recordings, artworks) have posthumously been accepted in two public collections: State Library of Victoria and Performing Arts Museum, Melbourne, Australia, in support of this claim.

I realise that this association raises a conflict of interest. I am not marketing the artworks that make up the Mitchell Faircloth estate, however, and in managing the estate, I will not profit financially or personally.

I have been working on writing the biography as objectively as possible. I am gathering secondary sources to support my writing and extant primary sources, and drawing on my professional research experience (I am retired tertiary education academic) to support my arguments. The Melbourne performing arts scene of the 1980s is under-researched I believe, and if these activities are not documented then the history and lessons we can learn from this period could be lost.
