Welcome to my userspace! I am a social historian with a particular focus on the evolution of Scottish estates and the families that shaped them.

Current Research Focus: The Carnegies of Finavon I am currently deep-diving into the history of James Carnegie of Finhaven in Angus, Scotland. My interest lies in how the family transitioned from the rugged, medieval lifestyle of the original Finavon Castle to the more refined, "polite" society of the 18th century at Milton of Finavon.

Specific Areas of Interest: - Architectural Shifts: The move from the 15th-century L-plan tower house to the Palladian influences found in later estate buildings, particularly those associated with the circle of William Adam (architect).

- Legal History: The 1728 trial of James Carnegie of Finhaven. I am interested in how the accidental killing of the Earl of Strathmore influenced the Scottish jury system and the "Not Guilty" verdict represented by Robert Dundas.

- Estate Features: Documenting the functional history of the Finavon Doocot (the largest in Scotland) and the significance of the Finavon Hillfort within the estate grounds.
