Asquithsangels is an online pseudonym the user behind it has used for several years. I'm a twenties-something American political scientist. I'm originally from southwestern Virginia and adore the Blue Ridge Mountains, azaleas, and anything that reminds me of my beloved home.
In my day job, I study the politics of white supremacy, organizational political culture, the Ku Klux Klan (not so much the second wave but definitely the first, third, and fourth waves), and understandings of political violence, both how it happens and how we should interpret the various actions that comprise it when they do occur. I also am currently undertaking professionally the absolutely hellacious task of trying to document and compile as many of the cases of violence that occurred during Reconstruction, at least those documented before the US Congress, as possible.
Outside of the day job, I'm a huge fan of the South Carolina Gamecocks (I'm an alum of the University of South Carolina), Manchester United, the Houston Astros, and have more than a passing interest in golf and horse racing (coincidentally the latter is where most of my edits are). I also follow more than recreationally British politics and can at least claim the most recent significant overhaul of the Lib Dem Frontbench article as a feather in my cap.
When I have some time, read: at some point this summer, I'd like to write an original article on the Klan Hearings, the 1871 Joint Select Committee to Inquire in to the Condition of Affairs in the Late Insurrectionary States. It's been a part of my IRL research and has been, truthfully, almost disgustingly ignored in the American historical record. Thankfully there's not a need for primary research to make that article though, even if I've read all 8,000 pages of that testimony. If you'd like to collab on that or have thoughts/feelings/opinions, feel to reach out here or reach out at asquitshns[at]gmail[dot]com. I'd prefer to keep my Wiki at least somewhat distinct from my IRL identity even if we're just doing things in the pursuit of knowledge.
Below are some wikiboxes that will hopefully help you to humanize me as much as you can someone semi-anonymous on the internet.
