Career

Michael Kenny began his recording career in 1975 on Tom Catalano's Tom Cat Records, a Beverly Hills label distributed by RCA Records. He released two singles that year before his self-titled debut album appeared in early March 1976. The album (catalog BYL 1-1437) was produced by Edward Germano and arranged by Jimmy Wisner, featuring New York and Los Angeles session musicians alongside the Brown String Section. Background vocals were contributed by Mary Ann Kenny and Gerard Kenny (the New York singer-songwriter who would go on to score UK hits with "New York, New York (So Good They Named It Twice)" and win an Ivor Novello Award in 1981 for the Minder theme "I Could Be So Good for You.")

Record World reviewed the album in its Album Picks section on March 6, 1976, describing it as "a carefully crafted set featuring top New York and LA session men" and noting an "LA version of an east coast outlook" in the songwriting.[1] The accompanying single "Emily" was reviewed in the same publication's Single Picks column on March 13, 1976, with Kenny described as "a young singer/songwriter of some note."[2]

In 1977, Private Stock Records released the promotional single "Love Me or Leave Me" (PS 45,164). No album on the label has been documented. Private Stock ceased operations in 1978.

His songs are currently available on streaming services. YachtRockinRadio.com plays Smooth AOR and West Coast music and often features his tracks as "Deep Dives".
