My name is Carl Gusler. I live in Austin, Texas. I'm involved in many things and have many interests.
I am a typical over-educated, under-employed Austinite. I did my undergraduate work at Georgia Tech. I did my graduate work at the University of Texas at Austin.
During working hours, I serve organizations around the world as a Disaster Recovery Consultant and as a Technology Architect. Following 9/11, I was asked to come to New York to help put back together a financial firm whose datacenter had been destroyed in the World Trade Center blast.
I am a Master Inventor. I hold 27 (and counting) US patents and a number of patents in other countries.
On my own time, I enjoy studying many topics.
Physical sciences, particularly geology, astronomy, and geophysics.
History, particularly political, military, and the history of science and engineering.
I have traveled extensively in North America and Central America, with some travels to Western Europe and South America. Existing projects have always gotten in the way of invitations to work in Asia. I do look forward to some day exploring the Far East.
For an engineer, I have exceptional literacy and writing experience in the English Language (or at least what passes for English in the US and amongst technologists). I speak passable Spanish. I have studied a year's worth of Japanese at the University level, and taken a few classes in Mandarin.
I can't go more than 48 hours without craving something from the many wonderful Asian cuisines.
I live in Austin with my beloved wife and wonderful children.
