The EN IEC/IEEE 82079-1:2020 Preparation of information for use (instructions for use) of products. Principles and general requirements standard, from International Electrotechnical Commission, dated May 2019, is an International standard which describes the management, design and preparation for all kinds of user guides.[1]
It is the most important standard in the field of technical documentation and technical communication. As a standard with a horizontal character, it is applicable to all products across all industries
The standard describes the basics for preparation, structur, content and presentation of User guides. It does not give a guidance for the pagination. The standard is based on IEC SC 3B "Documentation" and ISO TC 10 "Technical drawings product definitions and related documentation". The further development of this part of the standard is the responsibility of BSI joint subcommittee GEL/3 - Documentation and graphical symbols.[2]
