Controversy
In July 2024 the OneBlood IT system suffered a data breach and ransomware incident exposing the names and social security numbers of more than 167,000 donors. Lax security and delayed notification led to class-action lawsuits and criticism regarding excessive executive pay was renewed.[2] OneBlood agreed to pay up to $1 million to those affected by the cyberattack, although they admitted no wrongdoing.[3]
In 2025, the non-profit organization compensated their president/CEO $1.7 million; four other officers earned in excess of $500k and seven others made from $363-$440k in base compensation.[1]
