H. H. Sultan Ahmed Ali Dinar (born 27 June 1973) is a Sudanese traditional leader, philanthropist, and businessman who serves as the current Sultan of Darfur. He is the thirtieth ruler descended from the Keira dynasty, a line that has governed the region of Darfur for over four centuries. Sultan Ahmed Ali Dinar succeeded his uncle, Sultan Ibrahim Yousif Ali Dinar, who was the traditional ruler of the Islamic Sultanate of Darfur in 2016.

Early life and education

Ahmed Ali Dinar was born in the city of Al-Fashir, North Darfur, on 27 June 1973. He grew up in Khartoum State, residing in Omdurman and later Jabal Awliya. He attended Al-Kalakla Al-Quba Primary School, Al- Kalakla Middle School, and Al-Maooren High School, and later studied at the Al-Jazeera University in Sudan.

Lineage

Sultan Ahmed belongs to the historic Keira dynasty, which founded the Sultanate of Darfur in the early 17th century under [[Sulayman Solong]] (r. 1603–1637), widely recognised as the state's first sultan.

The dynasty reigned through successive rulers, including the Sultan Ahmad Bakr, Sultan Muhammad al-Fadl, and eventually Ali Dinar (c. 1865–1916), Ahmed’s great-grandfather was the last independent.

Reign

Following the passing of Sultan Ibrahim Yousif Ali Dinar, Ahmed was chosen in 2016 by consensus of Darfur’s civil and tribal

administration to serve as Sultan. His role involves representing the cultural, social, and traditional leadership of Darfur, both within Sudan and internally, continuing the Keira dynasty's symbolic Heritage Aker the abolition of the formal sultanate in 1916. As Sultan, he has participated in numerous peace and reconciliation efforts across Sudan, including the Juba Peace Agreement process.

He has also engaged in international cooperation initiatives aimed at promoting peace, education, and community development.

Career and positions

Beyond his traditional duties, Sultan Ahmed Ali Dinar is the founder and chairman of the Dinar Holding Group, with interests in Turkey and Kenya. He serves as:

  • Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Bakht Al-Rida University.
  • Chairman of the Sultan Ali Dinar Islamic Complex.
  • Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sultan Ali Dinar Museum and Palace.

He has received an honorary doctorate from the Technofist Technology College of Turkey and an international certificate of merit from Portugal recognizing his contributions to peace and development.

Humanitarian work

Sultan Ahmed Ali Dinar is active in humanitarian relief and Community initiatives.
