Anthony J. “Tony” Bates (born 29 April 1967) is a British-born technology executive currently Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Genesys. He assumed the CEO role on 6 May 2019.^[1]

From May 1996 to September 2010, Bates served at Cisco Systems, rising to Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Enterprise, Commercial, and Small Business Group. In that capacity, he oversaw a division with more than USD 20 billion in annual revenue.^[2]

In October 2010, Bates was appointed CEO of Skype. Following Microsoft’s acquisition of Skype in May 2011, he became President of Microsoft's Skype Division, and later Executive Vice President of Business Development, Strategy, and Evangelism, serving until March 2014.^[3]

On 4 June 2014, GoPro announced that Tony Bates would become President, and join the Board of Directors.^[4] He held this position through December 2016.^[5]

Bates took the helm as CEO of Genesys on 6 May 2019.^[6] He leads the company’s global strategy and operations. According to external interviews, he heads a workforce of more than 6,000 employees across 100+ countries.^[7]
